Nintendo may re-release Super Mario All-Stars

Bummed that you didn’t get a copy of Super Mario All-Stars? Ready to pay three times the retail price on eBay?

Hold your mushrooms. Nintendo is looking into a reprint of the limited-edition Wii game.

“We are gratified by the consumer response to this limited-edition product, which we created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game on NES,” Nintendo public relations director Marc Franklin told Wired.com via email on Friday. “Because of the strong response, we are exploring the option of bringing this item back at a later date.”

“Until that decision is made, consumers should check with retailers, as supplies will vary by store,” Franklin said.

Super Mario All-Stars is a Wii version of the classic 1993 Super Nintendo release, which consisted of upgraded versions of the first four Mario titles. The $30 package also includes a booklet about Mario’s history and an audio CD full of Mario music.

Released in North America on December 12, Super Mario All-Stars quickly sold out of many stores. Wired.com’s spot checks of stores in New York City in late December turned up zero copies of the game (and lots of laughs from store clerks when we asked about it).

On eBay, the $30 game now regularly fetches as much as $80.

Nintendo should do it right this time and release a downloadable version. We all know it's possible. The game is tiny scrubbed and there were injected WADs floating around before the authentic disc came out. They could of course charge a premium price of say $20. I'm sure it would sell like crazy.

Can't you already download those game from the shop channel?

Think of all the people that cannot get access to high speed internet, that is a big chunk of people.

I don't believe The Lost Levels is available.

It look's like sales of this as a physical product are doing well, I'd much rather have something that is a collectable opposed to dlc, any day, dlc isn't collectable. Look at the PSP Go.

There was also a soundtrack disc in the box that isn't available in the shop

True but being able to download it through the shopping channel would have advantages too. I'm sure some people want to launch it as a channel. If you are already planning on downloading the first three anyway you could download one channel and save slots. Not everyone has a game store by them. Don't get me wrong...The collector factor of the disc is cool too. I think they should do both. That's why I suggested a cheaper price for the download. Maybe $15 instead of $20 would be better for a download. It would be like getting The Lost Levels for free.

Yea, the file size is about right for a dlc, and should be offered as one, especially since this is a limited edition and will not be around forever.
