Already posted in the Modchip section by famousginni but I thought it was important enough to give proper exposure because we don't all look in Modchip forums.
Source WiinewzIt seems the newly released Wii title "Rugby League 3" may contain a new form of protection that stops the game from running on a chipped console. Yes, an original purchased game disc will apparently not function when run on a modded console.
A warning on the back of the game's packaging states "unauthorized technical modifications to your wii may render this game unplayable."
Users have been reporting the issue on the game's official forum. According to their reports, softmods and newer chips like DriveKey and WODE work fine.
The official statement from the administrator of the game's forum is "if you are having problems getting the game working with your modchip, you should try deleting any softmods, hacks, or other non standard software that you have on your Wii. "
Nintendo seem to be hating Modchip users right now.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.
I wonder what it is but I guess its a step in the right direction against piracy.
There's a small update on that page,
Based on thatUPDATE: The game is apparently looking for the Trucha Bug in an IOS file so some softmods are affected. Hackers are still trying to narrow down which file(s) it is checking for.
I'd guess at 36 and/or maybe the system IOS, but I don't have much knowledge on how modchips do their thing.
Edit: Nm that it's probably the IOS the game calls on to function. That's my official guess and I'm sticking to it.

"I think that the Wii is a beautiful piece of hardware, and a broken Wii is a tragedy. It doesn’t matter why or how." -- Bushing
O RLY? Sounds like they got abit creative.
Ok, now this is just wrong! What is this going to do against piracy? Not a damn thing! It will, however, just make people download the pirated copy, burn and play it instead of the original. Or, install it to USB. This is just like the new DVD drive, a waste of effort. The Big N is going about this the wrong way. The best thing that they have done so far is disable backup reading on LU60+ and DVD reading on LU70+. But this and the new drive are a step in the wrong direction. How could they decide that disabling the playing of an ORIGINAL disc is going to discourage piracy? I'd like to know where they get thier logic from.
Yeh! Didn't take long to get around it!
Think Wii Raquet Sports may be in the same boat

What is funny is that they really think their game is worth a crap to protect it this way. Then saying what or how to fix it, as if they know anything. LOL you have to be kidding right? As already pointed out... it was a great way for them to have their game pirated without that many being sold.
If the game was worth a damn it would have been better but come on this piece of crap. HAHA
