    Status Update 16-03-2010
Since there are quite a few questions to answer, I thought I would put them all in a new post.

Firstly, SD-Boot will not be named SD-Boot anymore once released.. this is because it will be able to do a whole lot more than just that.

The main delay with the next version is that it will add support for a few new devices which will be capable of booting backups. (USBGecko support is going to be merged in too - from usb-boot)

A memory card manager is coming in the new version too, hence the large delay, and not to forget md5 generation for disc backups. More smaller but still significant features are to follow as well in a future update when I have some screenshots to show off.

Two disc support from sd-card is still a little incomplete, but it's getting there (it's at the bottom of my todo list at the moment).

I plan to improve compatibility but that takes a lot of time, and I'd rather iron out other bugs and features first.

Unfortunately, Audio streaming support from sdgecko is not possible. I plan to make games not require a DVD Disc in the drive (or at least spun down/laser off)

    Boots:
    Originals and backups from DVD
    ISO from SD/SDHC (FAT16/FAT32 supported)
    GCOS/Cobra Multi-Game compilations on DVD
    DOL executables from SD/SDHC/DVD (ISO9660)
WODE ISO files from HDD/DVD (when running on a Wii)

    Supports:
    Multi-mode menu (PAL50/PAL60/NTSC/480p)
    Video mode patching (PAL50/PAL60/NTSC/480p)
2 Disc Games (Original or backup from DVD only)
    Disc ripping to SD/SDHC
    Full cheats database support (SD/SDHC/DVD/WODE)
    IPL configuring
    Disc/ISO analysis

Hope you all enjoy this upcoming version, please comment on any features you'd like to see that I've missed and aren't terribly hard to implement.

Man, when I saw the title of this thread, I almost flipped. I have been looking everywhere for something like this, as I cannot burn discs at the moment. I cannot wait till the project is complete and working.

what do you mean by this? you can play the GC games off a USBHD but the sound won't work?

I merly quoted emu kidid's blog. "USB-BOOT", if that's what it's going to be called, has not been released yet. We can only hope that the sound works, otherwise, what good would it be for playing GC backups. Anyway, it's a step in the right direction.

Awesome, thanks for the info. Any word on a possible release for the USB booter?

Also I take it that it implies the boot is for softmoded Wii's without the certain DVD drive right? As nice as it appears, black Wii's are a pain in the ass at times.

I think the USBgecko plugs into your computer on one end, and the other end plugs into your Gamecube memory card slot.

Oh ok, thanks that looks pretty sweet. Since the way the Wii emulates a GC by pretty much being a GC...do you think it will ever be possible to boot a GC game off a USB HDD like we can with Wii/Wiiware games?

It's been done with a Wode, so my guess is it may be possible with a softmod, we just have to wait and see what happens.

There's a big difference between the WODE's GC backup loading and a softmod's. Softmods don't modify the DVD drive firmware in any way, so when the Wii goes into GC sandbox mode, it communicates directly with the Disc Drive. Unless we found a way to patch the DVD drive at runtime, we can't change that. WODE is a hardware modification, it changes what the DVD drive is reading on a physical level, not a software level. Two VERY different concepts.
