Exclamation Australian game ratings debate slated for April!

The Australian National Classification Scheme is considering lifting the ban in order to reduce piracy and stop violent games sneaking in with MA 15+ ratings.

Federal Attorney-General Robert McClelland said the discussion paper and public submissions could be on the agenda at the next attorneys-general meeting.

The Australian National Classification Scheme "is a co-operative scheme and these decisions are best made on that co-operative basis", Mr McClelland told reporters in Sydney today.

"They're usually made by consensus, but all the State and Federal governments will look at this report when it is presented."

South Australian Attorney-General Michael Atkinson holds a veto power and is against relaxing a ban on R-rated computer games.

A gaming protest group is running a candidate against the Mr Atkinson in his Adelaide seat of Croydon in the South Australian election on March 20.

Well heres to hoping it gets passed without too much trouble.

The lack of an 18+ approval is the craziest thing I've ever heard. Don't Australian adults have the right to choose what is appropriate for themselves. No wonder so many have to turn to piracy.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.

It should be the same as movies.... if you are not 17 then no R movies or a choice of the parents...

Yeah I agree with you Cile R and MA movies arent all that different its just that with the R rating you can add more detail to the "gore" and such while with games it'll just allow them to classify them more clearly and appropriately.
