    Sony Patent Universal Controller

Source: Sony Patent Universal Controller TheSixthAxis – PS3 and Xbox 360 News, Trophies And Opinion

A patent filed by Sony today appears to suggest Sony are working on a Universal Game Controller. “A universal game console controller that has an LCD presenting, depending on what type of game console a user has input, a controller key layout for a first type of game console or a controller key layout for a second type of game console,” says the patent.

We’ve seen keyboards for PCs that do a similar thing, but this is entirely LCD and thus the buttons available can change completely depending on what the game is. The internet is currently wild with speculation on what this might be for, including some interesting ideas about the controller being used for Xbox 360 and Wii systems.

    Anyone want to start speculating?

Why the fork would Sony build a Universal Controller that works with Xbox360 and Wii. This is maddness. Unless they have all agreed to this.

I ask you this? Why don't Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo get together and build us a system that we all can't resist? Imagine a system that has bluray games like ps3, natal like the future xbox 360's and the arcade compatibilites (emulators) like the wii. Would we not all buy them?

    Nice post Favs

This is prob nothing more then sony trying to get a Pat that they then can use to sue any 2 bit controller maker with. Much like the company that got a Pat on RSS Feeds with enclosures (IE Podcasts).
I know atleast for Xbox, you have to pay some fundage to MS for even making an xbox remote, and I'd assume the same for Nin if they even allow 3rd party remotes.
If I've helped you in my posts, please use the (Thanks) button on this post.

(Its a work in progress yet)

sony figures there more money to be made if they make a controller that is compatible with the most popular console.
