As do most cIOS releases and many other homebrew apps. Rename cIOS38Rev17.dol to boot.dol and be merry.

No, everything was without error... I think...

My setting in GX is set using ios222 when I check its credit.
One suggestion is you install neogamma I have mine and when I updated from IOS249r14 to r17 you can see it at the buttom screen of neogamma's front screen. That clearly confirms it.
Yes, in Neogama screen there is notice that I'm still on r14!

The "cIOS38r17-Installer" looks for the "IOS38-64-v3867.wad" on the root. That's it. No manual wad installing.
OMG, did I broke something? I'm so untalented for those things! When I do like you said will there be successfull installing?

    preloader v0.29
    BootMii v1.0
    Homebrew channel 1.0.3
    WAD Manager v1.4
    USB Loader GX 850c

If you do as dasfool says it should work, and the Gx loader will show the version you are on.
    rename .dol to boot.dol

I installed cIOS38r17 using the installer with IOS38-64-v3867.wad in the root directory. After installation, I used Wad Manager 1.4 to install IOS38-64-v3867.wad. The current guide instructs to install cIOS38r17 in step 3 then IOS38-64-v3867.wad in step 5.

I previously had IOS38-64-v3610.wad installed using an older version of the "New 3.1-4.1 Softmod for ANY Wii" guide.

Was the installation of IOS38-64-v3867.wad necessary?

Is this normal procedure to run cIOS38 installer with latest required IOS38, 50, 53, 55 wads in root directory then install all manually after cIOS38 installed?

It is only necessary to run the installer, it uses the wad in the SD\root.
It won't have done any harm though, reinstalling IOS's is OK, never delete any.

I tried it and it works just fine. Tested the new super mario bros (it is a patched one though) and some other games and they worked without any issues.
Awesome sig picture does not work

There are guides for WSR here.
