Source............The App Store for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch has earned Apple billions of dollars. It has also sparked a huge wave of indie developers who can compete with the likes of EA and all those other massive companies. And now, according to The Daily, Nintendo is working on a similar concept for the Wii U. They say that:
Wii U owners will be able to use apps that operate on the Wii U itself, such as MLB.TV, and others that run independently on the Wii Uís controller. Given its tablet-like design and 6.2-inch screen, itís not hard to imagine being able to check email, browse the Web, post to social networks and even get some gaming in.
If this is true, this is amazing. But I have a hard time believing Nintendo would do anything quite so awesome. Or if they do release an App Store it may remain incredibly restrictive.
I hope they do it. That would be awesome.
Restrictive and subject to the approval of Nintendo. Opening up development of apps to the community may or may not be a possibility. Given the ability of the community to continuously circumvent every anti-hacking measure that Nintendo has ever put in place, I'm sure the capabilities of apps would be severely limited. No reading or loading of external files would probably be a huge limitation that I can see. And then, if something DID make it past Nintendo's scrutiny that somehow voided the end-user's warranty (ala the HBC) Nintendo would have a huge liability on their hands, because they would then be obligated to honor the user's voided warranties, regardless of whether they maliciously hacked their Wii U or just installed a cool app from the app store. Apple has done a good job of not letting any Jailbreak apps through their store, but the iPod is also quite limited in that it doesn't have any standardized peripheral ports.
If they DID follow the App store concept, then we'd be sure to see at least an SDK before launch. Whether or not *that* would cost anything remains to be seen...
EDIT:: It appears as if this has been unofficially confirmed....
We have already seen the Wii U with its superior graphics and fancy touchscreen controller and it looks really cool. If you are counting the days until that console launches you will get a kick out of this. Unsurprisingly Nintendo will be offering an app store for the gameconsole. According to the reports that app store won’t be like the DSi or the Wii stores, but will be the full-blown type.
A source cited by The Daily claims that the Wii U store will go far beyond what Nintendo has now and will offer a wide variety of game apps and more. What sort of apps will be offered are unknown, but we can make some interesting guesses and assumptions. Naturally, Netflix and other apps will be offered since they are on the Wii already.

It would have an app store IF nintendo worked with apple.
So you think that Apple's App store is the only App market in the World?
Mate, you gotta get out more lol.
What? Haven't you heard of the android store? What about the nokia store?Originally Posted by mariofans123
Dude, the app store may be seen as being the "original", but there are plenty of other app stores.
Nintendo doesn't need to work with anyone, this is the reason that they pwn when it comes to innovative consoles and games
