[Rumor]Wii U has quad core 3GHz CPU, 768 MB of RAM
Nintendo is finally set to release a new, much more powerful console with HD graphics, and many are wondering what kind of technology we might find inside the console, and how it will compare with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. We’ve heard from developers who have access to the console that the Wii U is “50% more powerful” than the Xbox 360 and PS3. We now know that those estimates of 50% are based on the fact that the Wii U is around 50% more powerful on paper, according to information Wii U Daily obtained from a Japanese developer who is currently working on porting a PS3 game to the Wii U.
According to the source, the Wii U specs are:
Quad Core, 3 GHz PowerPC-based 45nm CPU, very similar to the Xbox 360 chip.
768 MB of DRAM “embedded” with the CPU, and shared between CPU and GPU
Unknown, 40nm ATI-based GPU
The source also mentions that Nintendo has been testing two versions of the console, one with 768 MB of RAM, and one with 1 GB. The RAM is also made by IBM and is embedded with the processor on the same die/silicon, which results in more bandwidth.
These were the specs that Nintendo showed developers around March 2011, so it’s unknown how close to the final specs these are, considering there’s a year until the console is scheduled for release.
When it was unveiled earlier this year, Nintendo confirmed that the Wii U would support 1080p graphics and 3D is possible as well.

Cant wait for this. The new Zelda technical demo looks brilliant and I hope its a good indication as to whjat the full game will be like
its going to be light years behind the next xbox and ps4, just sayin. Nintendo and their focus on gimmicks over gameplay...
Either way I personally think Nintendo has been more profitable than xbox and ps3.
Not sure if M$ and Sony will do the big risk reward thing this gen coming. I know that Sony took a hugh hit this gen in sales trying to sell a 700 console when the market clearly dictated that the consumer did not want to pay a high price for a gaming machine.

Also to the above poster. I love all my consoles to death and really couldn't care less of any fanboyism to one particular.
In the case of Wii U I can actually see the practicality of a second screen(mirror in kart, advanced radar in star fox, quick item menu systems and suit operations for samus suit.)
Imagine playing metroid and getting hit by an enemy and the suit contracts a virus that attacks the suits internals and you have to play the game and find time to bypass and defeat the virus at the same time on the other screen.
I know that that was out there a little, but that sort of power in the hands of a team like ead or retro studious I couldn't care less. Its beefy enough cause really a good game can be more than graphics.
Mario Galaxy won game of the year on the year it was released.
Graphix is teh over rated.
I played pong in the 70's with a couple of dials or paddles and the arcades in the 80's had so many diverse ways to play games then. Sad to see that instead of a player testing himself and diversifying themselves they call gimmick an give me more graphics plz and lets call it a day.
Myself i am glad to see that there is one company that will at least attempt to give us a fantastic new way to interact with our games.
Just play the games and enjoy who cares the platform.
