Nintendo Looking to the NEXT Gen Already?

To be honest, I'm pretty sure this is a rumor started by some Nintendo/Wii U hater but who knows, maybe it is real:

Nintendo Fusion Could Be Next Gen Hardware Name

Sounds like the makings of a Nintendo 4DS.

I think N should just dump the Wii U and come with a more powerful console than the competition so that the world takes them serious again. Or just lower the price of the Wii U.
I still have to buy a Wii U but I'm waiting for a good price drop and MARIO KART!!!!!

Either way, they look bad. If they put out a new, more powerful, console, they abandon the early adopters, the true Nintendo Fans who had faith in them and their product, and many of them may not have the same faith in such a short life-cycle that had a high price of entry. If they lower the price more, of which they are taking a loss already, their investors won't be too happy about that.

It is rare that a price drop happens within a year of initial launch. Nintendo managed to do it twice in a row, once with 3DS (of which I bought two $250 units), and the Wii U (again, I bought the $350 unit). Only to have the total $850 of products lowered to $640 within a year of each of their launches. That $210 is a big bullet to swallow.

Wii struggled its last few years due to being underpowered. A successor was needed sooner.

The idea of launching a a wii u and 3ds successor simultaneously is a good one it think. They can design deep integration from the ground up. Basically have the game pad be a 3ds and the 3ds be the gamepad. Sell the handheld portion as a standalone device and make it very compelling to own the home console part of it as well. It makes sense going forward.

That at being said wii u and 3ds both have several more years before a successor comes out, whether these rumors are true or not Nintendo should be doing work on the eventual successors.

I've been saying that I think the next console from Wii U will be a combined handheld and home console in one for a while now. But I was hoping it would be after the Wii U has had a full life-cycle, not the 3DS.

Wii U is just barely starting its second year, 3DS is almost starting its fourth year. In comparison, DS-family of consoles had about a 6.5-year lifecycle (Nov 2004 to Q1 2011).

I have no problem if wii u does not have as long of a life cycle as the wii.

It it will still be plenty supported by Nintendo for years.

    3ds is doing well now.

3 years from now seems fine to launch successors for both consoles simultaneously.

inalso think it would be wise to try and grab the tablet and smartphone type of games.
