Yes that's true. Some people do have the bandwidth to not have to worry. I know Wii U retail downloads are pretty large just considering the discs hold 25-50gb, or so I've read.

It's not a native BR format. Likely it's some custom variant similar to how GameCube used a modified mini-DVD and Wii used a modified DVD (data written backwards), but since I'm not sure exactly now Wii U games written, I don't know for sure.

It defiantly isn't a DVD format, and if you hold the disk, you can tell it isn't standard BR either since the edge is more curved. It's got a pretty unusual feel.

Maybe it's a riff on the failed HD-DVD format, lol.

According to wiki they're listed as just "Wii U Optical Disc" so it's likely some special format for Nintendo only.

Maybe. Did they have curved edges? I don't recall.

I actually had an HD-DVD disk once (the player that I bought lasted three months before breaking, so it was only used a few times for things other than standard DVDs).

    I Don't think HD-dvds had a capacity of 25GB; but maybe I'm wrong.

I wasn't being literal. That being said, HD-DVD was 15gb single layer, or 30gb dual layer.

Was it that small (comparatively speaking)? I thought it was larger than that.

Up to 60gb if double sided, dual layered (same source citation).
