I plan on eShopping most of my retail games. So if I have $5 or $10 hanging around, it will get used eventually.

If it is cheaper to buy online than the retail disc then I am in that boat as well, But here in Australia distributors love too price hike the cost of our digital goods even when our $ is beating the US's $ its funny how those prices just rise then uhhurm anyway I am sure this is going to annoy other people as well as not everybody is planning to leave money sitting around as store credit :P.

So does anybody know of an expected release date for the downloadable content?

In the US, same-day-as-launch prices are the same as retail. As time goes on, retail games will have price drops and eShop games will likely stay at it's initial price. Though some eShop-only games have had price-drops, so maybe we will see some older titles get price drops digitally in the future as well.

There is no known release date for this update. Its likely in early development. They probably wanted to wait to see what NSMBU sales were vs. overall system sales and see how NSMB2 DLC sales went before deciding on this. I would expect fall this year.

I'm interested in the dlc but not if I need add store credit like say it costed an exaggerated amount of $35 and you had no store credit, for a first time buyer using the Wii U estore you would need to add 2*$20 or the $50 option as linking a card enforces adding store credit however that is presumed that you cannot directly pay in exact amounts after inital setup.
This must be either an Australia thing or a debit card thing. I have purchased F-Zero and Punchout!! for 30 cents (USA) and I did not have to add a block of credit. I hate that too and was annoyed at having to buy Wii points in specific blocks (microsoft does this too but in $5 increments instead of $10 like the old Wii).

It is a sham that they charge full retail price for downloading retail games. They get a higher profit margin. You get the convenience of not having to insert a disc but you have to pay extra to have the storage for it, you can't loan it out or sell it (although I guess the game stays with the console if you sell that) or play it at a friends with out bringing your console, and if your console ever has issues you risk losing the game completely unless you pay for an over priced official nintendo repair (which may not even be an option if you modify your console).

I see way more negatives to this than positives. Makes more sense or the 3DS as not having to carry games around is more important on a portable and the games are smaller so the storage is cheaper but I can't convince myself to switch to downloading even on 3DS.

I wish they ditched optical disc for some flash storage cartridge on the Wii U as you would have faster load times and not have to worry about scratches but I guess that would cost more to produce and eat away at profit margins.

It sounds to me like that it will be a single-player experience.

The platforms that I've seen in the announcement video are much smaller. I don't think that they can fit 4 people at a time.

If there is multi-player, we know that it won't involve Mario. That was stated when announced too, it's "New Super Luigi U", not "New Super Luigi Bros. U".

It would be cool if they threw in a playable Daisy or Peach or something.

So this game is going to have multiplayer but no mario. New playable character is nabbit who can't take damage and can't get power ups. I wonder if the toads will control like luigi or like in the regular game.

dlc is coming June 20 for $19.99 and their will be a standalone retail version for $30 in August.
