Wii U Surpasses 2 Million Sales

According to VGChartz, the Wii U has finally passed the 2 million sales mark, all within just around a month. Nintendo hopes to sell around 5.5 million units by April 2013. I am not sure if they will be making that mark, but hopefully they will come close to it.

North America is in the lead currently, this is to be expected since the Wii U released there first. Following North America is Japan, Europe, and finally Rest of World:

North America – 1.09 Million Units
    Japan – 560K Units
    Europe – 410K Units
Rest of World – 150K Units

These numbers are sure to be constantly changing, as more and more people buy the newest Nintendo console. Currently the Wii U has already sold 81% of the original Wii’s numbers for the same time frame, despite costing $100 more. This is an astonishing feat for Nintendo.

I don't know, $300 for 8gb and $350 for 32 still seems a little steep considering the 360 and PS3 have 250gb and cost about the same...then again they're much much older. And 32gb iPhone's are also $300 lol.

In addition, I believe the XBOX 360 was $399 at launch with a 20 GB Hard drive. Considering that the Xbox is basically a stripped down computer dedicated to gaming, with nothing inherently fancy about the console itself, that yielded one heck of a profit margin.

The main problem I see is the precedence regarding pricing. As soon as someone finds out that customers are willing to pay $X for their competitors console, they decide to price their's for $X+1. (Which is where the $600ish speculation came from originally with the Wii U).

I STILL remember the utter disappointment of having $100 in hand and going to ShopKo to buy a Sega Genesis, only to see the $199.00 price tag on it!
