Wii U: USB memory support confirmed, gamers can plug 3 terabyte Hard Drive if needed

Nintendo (America) president Reggie Fils-Amie has confirmed that Wii U will support full THREE Tera-byte hard drive (if needed) all thanks to Wii U USB Storage support.

In a recent interview to Engadget, Fils-Aime said, "You can plug in a full-on three terabyte hard drive if you want. I'll love you as a digital consumer."

He further went on to explained, "The reason we did it that way is that the cost of that type of storage memory is plummeting. What we didn't want to do is tie a profit model to something that's gonna rapidly decline over time. We'll let the consumer buy as much as they want, as cheaply as they want,"

So there you have it folks, here is the solution of your concerned about Wii U small internal flash storage capacity (32GB).

you can almost be certain that a USB loader program is already in the works. with some coding experience under my belt, i might even take a go at it.

Reminds me of the first Xbox, I installed a 120gb hard drive inside the unit and played downloaded games directly from it. Then the xbox 360 arrived, and I don't believe anyone's ever cracked how to play downloaded games directly from a hard drive. Correct me if i'm wrong though, it's been a long time since i've looked.

I imagine Wii U will be the same, much more protection than the original Wii.

juzdu: you can play games from an external hard drive on an xbox 360(phat or slim) by either the RGH or Jtagg, and it's been out for a loooong time.
I agree with black94850, I'm sure we'll see a usb loader a few months (if not less) after the wiiu is released.

I would like to see official usb loader not a homebrew official with timt-to-time original disk check to prove you have genuine game (like Devolution). There are some games that really need to be placed on usb drive because loading time kills pleasure from gaming (e. EA Sports Active 2).

Are the RGH/Jtagg softmods only like we've enjoyed for some time on Wii? I much prefer never to give my kids access to the original disc, we've lost so many over the years from their poor handling.

it's like a soft mod in the way that there is games stored on external hdd and internal hdd. but there is soldering of a coolrunner mod chip for rgh and soldering for jtag systems, but in the end it gives the same as a soft modded wii.
