    Newbie Questions Here

    Hi,

I am new in the forum so please bear with me. I have some question about vWii in Wii-U.
I am planning to install a vWii on my Wii-U and here are some of my questions:

Is the only flashcard to use is a SD card which 2gb and lower? Most of the memory cards in my place are 8gb SDHC and higher. can i use a 1gb micro SD card?

If i install a vWii, can I remove it or can I restore the wii mode in its original state?

can updates of the wii-u affect the unit with the vWii installed on it?

lastly, does the vWii bypass region locks? like playing ntsc wii games on my pal wii-u?

I hope you can help me out here. Thank you very much in advance.

    Regards,
    Jamhoe

The purpose (or rather, limitation) of 2GB or less full SD card is more due to minor or potential compatibility issues with the softmod files. Once fully completed, SDHC are fine to use. CJ would have to speak more on point here, as usually that has to do with BootMii being fussy with the Wii (which is a non-issue on Wii-U because there isn't a version for that). WiiMod (and other similar wad managers) also at times can have issue with SDHC.

As to removal of the softmod to the vWii, we currently have no guide to do so. Usually it's more risk to remove something than to install something. It only affects the vWii side and leaves the Wii-U side untouched. Thus far, every single update has left the vWii untouched. The only (incidental, I might add) thing that's ever been affected is erroneously kicking in the 4:3 display rather than the 16:9 perspective with regard to HBC. And yes, the guide for the vWii addresses that in terms of a fix or work around.

On region locks, I can tell you on the classic Wii Priiloader featured region removal and loaders would support out of region game play. Pretty sure the Priiloader had less to do with retail games than say console purchases via Shop Channel and so forth. In other words, I believe so long as the loader supports out of region it should work. Again, I will yield any further opinions or answers to CJ (who actually owns a Wii-U).

Check out the vWii softmod guide here and read the entire thing. Welcome to the site

Lol, I couldn't have said the above any better nightstah!

The only thing I can really add is about the SD card. Many people have gotten sdhc cards to work, and many haven't. If you are going to attempt to use a card other than what we recommend, make sure its a decent quality name branded card. A lot of the failures I have seen have come from using weird named off brand cards, and micro cards in crappy adapters. In this area, cheaper isn't always just as good. With these crap cards the hackmii installer freezes or doesn't load, wads don't install, etc. So, to avoid confusion and a million questions as to why the guide isn't working, we just say "use a 2 gig, preferably sandisk". We know that works.

And to further prove the SD card point, I just tried to use a Samsung 16 gig micro in a Samsung adapter while testing the next version of the ANY Wii guide. No dice, the HBC stack dumped a few times then didn't show anything on the card. Tried a transcend adapter...nothing. Tried a Kodak 32 gig sdhc....same problem. Went to my trusty 2 gig sandisk, everything went perfect. So there ya go...

sorry for the late reply guys.

I have read your reply and this was very helpful. Thank you very much.

As of now I've still got no luck of finding and sd card but I will still try to look for one, if not I'll try it with the lowest sdhc card that I have.

One more thing, is there any critical risk about using the sdhc card if ever? eg like bricking the wii mode?

    Thanks again in advance.
