Maybe it got missed so I will say it again. The Wii U USB ports provide appx 500 mA of power each. A usb hdd requires appx 1 Amp (which is 1000 mA), so you can see that there is not enough power coming out to run your drive. In comparison, a flash drive takes appx 100 - 150 mA (it is solid state, no moving parts like a hdd), so that is why a flash drive will work, since it is well under the 500mA max.

As far as CFG and 222, I will be honest and say I have no clue why CFG is prompting for that cIOS. When testing, everything worked fine on both drives I tested it on. I have the same exact setup as the guide, absolutely no differences at all. If i were to venture a guess (and it is just a guess) i would say that since the drive isnt being recognized cfg might be cycling through known cios trying to find one that will work. But none of them are going to work, since the drive doesnt have enough power to operate in the first place.

If you are hell bent on using that drive, try the Y cable. Or slice and dice like I did with a one amp usb charger. Chances are one of those will fix you up. 222 is not the problem though, so you might as well stop bringing it up.

Sent using the WiiHacks app. Please excuse the brevity, punctuation and spelling.

What I think is that he tried another way to hack his vWii and it did not work so he decided to come here to "repair" it with your official guide and now he is screwed and he is blaming you guys....

I followed the instructions to the letter and it works perfectly....

I didn't screw up anything. I don't understand why I'm being flamed for trying to understand something??? Great, I get you're a moderator, but don't get pissy with your users over menial things.

But I'll just get an externally powered USB drive since the Wii U apparently doesn't supply the standard power levels to the USB ports.

The other thing I can think of is that if you are using the same hdd that you used on your regular wii then probably the homebrew channel is using the apps on that hdd so try changing the homebrew setting to use the sd card for the vwii usb loaders

All that I have on the HDD are the game backups. The apps folder is on the SD card, which is where my HomeBrew channel is pulling from.

I'll go over the guide again, downloading everything from there and overwriting (not deleting) everything.

Whelp I'm trying a flash drive now.

I apparently had two issues. Configurable USB Loader is for the Wii, not vWii. Also noticed the external drive was flashing like a madman instead of lighting up solid.

If you used the one from the apps pack (CFG MOD r15) it's for the vWii. If this is the same drive that's not being provided adequate electrical current, I refer you to cjizzle's previous post.

Edit: did you check flash drive compatibility?

Not correct. That version is compatible with both Wii and vWii.

Is it version specific? Still is probably a hardware issue since my drive was flashing like crazy when hooked up to the Wii U.
