    Hold on a second here... The drive has to be externally powered. The wii u does not supply enough power to run a drive that is USB powered

    That's odd considering the old Wii does work with USB powered drives.

    Wii U does gimp on the power output. They say right out in their requirements that you should have external power to the hard drive.

    Lucky me, I have a external powered one. I was just hoping my self powered I use on my current Wii would be good enough.

    Offically, Nintendo stated they don't want users using Y-cables and will not be supported if something goes wrong.

    But I have heard of cases where that worked. The power from 2 USB ports was enough to power the drive.

    ya sorry for the misinformation, didnt know wiiu didnt power drives... sorta weird eh? , well atleaste learned somthing...
