Black Ops 2
Who's playing Black Ops 2? I bought the game and just cannot seem to get the hang of the controls! At first I was using the Gamepad, but then noticed a lot of people on Miiverse suggesting the Wiimote and Nunchuk combo, at which I'm not much better. I usually play online and 9 times out of 10 I'm getting my butt handed to me with 0 kills. I'm just no good at this sort of thing.
I love FPS games. I still remember downloading DOOM from iD's BBS at 1200 bps back in the day. I currently am hooked on Urban Terror (again) which is a Quake 3 mod (running on ioQuake). I play that every day (usually an hour per week day), and, with the exception of hackers, there are very few people who can get the better of me. With that all said, given a keyboard and mouse, I'd be headshotting 12-yr olds in BO2 all day long!
Does anyone have any tips for improving gameplay? If you see me, I'm usually the guy running around looking at his feet... :dft002: Am I just getting old? Damn, I always knew that gray hair, a slower metabolism, and random aches and pains usually comes with age, but getting my ass kicked this badly in a game is where i draw the line......
If you are more familiar with 360 or PS3 controls, then try picking up a Pro Controller to see if that helps.
My kid plays MW3 with the classic controller pro. When/if I finally give him BlOps 2, he'll be using the pro controller.
Going from keyboard and mouse to a controller (especially the differently shaped Wii controllers) is a real pain. I played a console FPS for the first time in a long time the other day and I did terribly. Controllers designed for gaming are usually helpful, but there aren't any for the Wii/WiiU that I know of. The only suggestions I have are to fiddle with the controller settings (layout, sensitivity, etc.) and just keep playing.
Here's a side-by-side image of the Wii U Pro Controller against the 360 controller...
When I see my kills replayed on the Killcam, I cannot believe the accuracy and speed with which these folks move.
Play more, you say? Roger that!
Actually, I started playing more games with similar controls. I had purchased the Metroid Prime Trilogy a year or two back (got it for a steal at $60 on Amazon) and never got into it due to the controls. About 6 months ago, Walmart started selling the Zapper on clearance, so I finally broke down and bought one. After getting by arse handed to me with a frequency that's greater than that of a subwoofer's resonance, I decided to give it another go, and try to improve my skills through stubborn discipline. I finally made it past the opening pirate ship, so things are turning around, but my skills with this combo still leaves something to be desired.
I'd go with llaffer's suggestion. The Pro is the closest you're going to get to a hard-core gaming controller for the WiiU right now. You might also learn to play with the claw, but that's a whole nother story.
And Nyko just released a pro controller for the WiiU as well. How about that...lol
