    Extend gamepad range

    Hi,

Anyone think about extend the gamepad range?
Gamepad comunicate throw Wi-fi, so could we use some wireless range expander to extend it?

The first time I started my Wii U, I had detected on my laptop an wireless lan with an SSID started with "WiiU" followed by a udge amount of alphanumeric caracters. Some king of unique ID...

Any ideas? or its just impossible and its better to forget it ?

I'd say folks would be more interested in extending the Wii U's battery life in terms of priority. But hey, you just go and Mad Scientist away and if any results --- let us know

Well, i think that extending battery life it's just a matter of time.
I think that soon will be toons of batterys extenders for gamepad on ebay, double batterys or something like that as we saw for PSP ou cellphones.

I also don't understand why nintendo didn't made the gamepad with removable batterys like wii remotes...

I would have assumed that the gamepad connected via Bluetooth.... maybe the video requires a higher throughput? From what I'm hearing, the speed of your Wifi can affect the gamepad distance (although, I suspect that speed has less to do with it than the channel used). If the Wii U and your WiFi are using the same channel (or close) then interference could theoretically affect the distance.

Are you having an issue with range? I can get all the way to my bedroom door before my gamepad loses connection, which is out of sight of the television nonetheless. Although, this could be due to interference as well, since I have an AP in my bedroom that needs to be reconfigured.

I'm not having any problem, but I'm not able do use it all over my house.
Ok, I know that nintendo developed gamepad to be used near wii and we cannot use it far because the low signal will afect game experience, but would be so nice to use it all over the house?

I did a little research, and it looks like the Wii U uses the 5 GHz wireless band for communication with the gamepad, and 2.4 GHz band for communication with the Wifi router. You probably have a wireless NIC that's capable of picking up the 5 GHz band, so that's why you saw it. However, it is NOT using a Wifi connection for communication with the Gamepad, that was be too limiting. The way that it's communicating is more similar to the way a cordless phone operates. The problem with the 5 GHZ band is that, yes, it is faster, however, it has about half the range of the 2.4 GHz band and has a harder time penetrating solid objects, walls, etc.

With that said, a Wifi extender won't do any good, even a 5 GHz range extender. I believe the ticket here is going to be a 5 GHZ cordless phone range extender, since that *should* theoretically rebroadcast everything on the 5 GHZ channel, rather than just a specific SSID for Wifi.

There IS the Panasonic KX-TGA405B Range Extender for Cordless Phone Systems, which sells for about $50 on Amazon. I'm not sure if that would work, but something along those lines will be your best bet.

    hard wear solution

this is more of a hardware solution, being that most people want the extended range to play JUST ON THE GAME PAD? anywhere in the house? for about 15$ you can get an extra WII U POWER ADAPTER on EBAY or such, then you can move,JUST THE CONSOLE leaving the HDMI and any external hard drive in place and plug it into the new power supply anywhere in your house you have an outlet!!!!! of course this will only work with games that can play on gamepad mode only but their are lots of those!!
