Buy wii or wait. And what of the upgrades. And hos about curent streaming.

The wii is realy in the wind, and there is thousands of people sitting and waiting for it to be able to do homebrew.
Iv understood it updates pretty heavily the first time, and that this update might even expand if there is newer updates release when you buy at a later date?

But what do you guys think. Is it better to buy one know, update the mandatory and then dont update until we have a fix. Or wait to buy?
Im also thinking that they might adress the battery "issue" in the control on later releases so you gave a decent battery. But who knows.
Im realy waiting and offcource hoping to be able to again play games by HDD, playing movies and emulators
And by the way. Can the wii U from the box stream videos now in HD like the xbox/PS3 can? And if so what formats?

It's really up to you. Once softmodding and USB loading is solid on vWii, then that will make it that much more attractive. When softmodding and USB loading is possible on the Wii U itself, then it'll be a no-brainer.

As of right now, you can purchase and download Wii U games directly to either system storage or external USB storage, eliminating the need for the disc. Although I don't know the specific details about how this works. It was said that retailers will also sell the digital versions of the games (retailers will have control over the price), so you can't just go to the Nintendo Shop and download NSMB, BO2, and ZombiU directly without out first buying the digital version from Wally World or wherever.

The bottom line is, if you want one and think you'll use it, then by all means pick one up. If the Wii U titles don't entice you as it stands, then there's not much harm in waiting. There may be hardware improvements in the future which will help the system run faster, however, just as with the Wii, there may be hardware "improvements" which make softmodding harder. BootMii as Boot2 vs IOS comes to mind.

Hopefully the price goes down in the case of waiting. I havea 3DS, a DS, and a Wii. Fortunately the price of the 3DS dropped down to a bargain. Hopefully in a year the same will happen for the Wii U. Only time will tell and the sales of the system itself. If sales are steady then unfortunately we won't see a sufficient price drop for a good 2 years. Certainly would be quite long of a wait and might just drop 20 - 40 dollars.

I'd say go with it, it's a great system. So far I'm loving it more than my 360 (didn't think I would...I only have 1 Wii U game by the way lol) but the other features besides the gaming make it very worth it. I love MiiVerse, Nintendo TVii (will be 1000x better when they add DVR, hopefully letting me use the Wii U as the DVR lol) and the eShop much nicer than the Wii Shop Channel (granted it barely has any content but it's new so that's to be expected). All around it's just a awesome system (has its flaws too but they're easily outweighed by the positive aspects IMO)...yeah...I probably sound like a dumb fanboy now lol. I honestly like my U that much though and will like it a lot better when I can play my AVI and MKV DVD rips from a HDD as well as Wii and GC games. The future for Wii U is looking pretty bright

    ---end of obnoxious rant

Edit: Yes, Wii U can (or at least is rumored to, I haven't tried yet) play MP4 videos streamed from a HDD. I'm not entirely clear in the process cause I don't care to try it, I'd rather play them off the HDD locally.

Also note that the updates the system makes are not optional, they happen deep in the background and there is little you can do to avoid them.

@BabyDaddy: Actually you can buy select games digitally straight from the eShop. NSMBU is up for $60, no need to go to the store. The only need to buy the games at the store is if A) you're like me a prefer hard copies, or B) the game you want is not available for digital purchase.

If waiting isn't a problem, then wait. Because the game library will increase. And in case there is small things wrong with the system, they'll add it to the box. Also, games will only get cheaper, and more available.

Lol hoping to grab a 3ds soon.

Dude, if they do drop Wii Us price they better do a ambassador program for us early buyers like they did with 3DS.

Thats the good thing about waiting is the increased quality of the library. Obviously not many games are out now so thats really the best reason to wait. I totally agree but I'll probably end up getting one over the summer anyway cause I don't got much money right now after getting my brew kit.

They probably will but then again they probably might not want to go through that trouble so perhaps that would be a good reason why there won't be a major price drop in a short period of time. One could only hope though.

I wouldn't be upset if it dropped by say $50 and they gave everyone who bought it between launch day and December 31st, 2012 some eShop reward, maybe since there are no VC games yet let us all get 5 free games (not the $60 retail games obviously, but stuff like Trine 2)

Hey $50 would be a great drop in price. The system is only $300 anyway so really its a great deal for a console. I'd get one now but again I just don't have the money =\

By the summer I might get one. Thats if I don't spend money on an assorted amount of 3DS titles. Really looking forward to the new Fire Emblem and Castlevania
