To update or not to update the wii u

What do you guys recommend? Should I wait until softmodding is available?
I just got a black wii u, and don't want to run the first update unless you guys think is ok to do so.

I feel that a 2+ hour update would attempt to close and double-lock all doors to softmod, and to me it seems easier to do any future sofmod with a nice untouched wii u 1.0.2 U.
    Also, how about SpotPass?

At this point in time the WiiU can't be hacked anyway aside from the virtual Wii so I'd go with that big update. Besides the big update adds a lot of functionality, from what I've read most of the WiiUs best features are locked till you do that update.

I would have to agree. As of right now, there are no known vulnerabilities to exploit, so the update wouldn't add any features that "fix" or eliminate any possible exploits. One word of advice, CANCEL the update and it will download in the background. After a day of playtime, then you should be safe to run the update without having to wait endless hours. Less chance to brick yer new console.

Just the comment I need to know, I just got my WiiU and hour ago and I plan to NOT kill it lol. So I just cancel the update and it'll still DL but I can apply it anytime I want afterward?

Edit: Bull! I just set up my Wii U, said Cancel when asked for the update and it does not DL in the background 😡

    You got my hopes up.

Done, i hit cancel yesterday and it applied the update until today. So it's about 2 or 3 hours of gameplay! You'll be ok!

What it bothers me is that you can't choose not to update, if i hit cancel to do DL in the background, then I would have expected to be able to deny or hold the update when the prompt comes up. Instead it only gives the option to continue, telling you the auto turnoff would be off....
It also updates the channels automatically (like netflix or youtube) without asking first!

But yeah I'm online now... and registered it on CN. I hope to get either a gold nunchuk when it comes back or a hanafuda deck

How? When I hit cancel for the update it canceled the update (I checked "active downloads" just to be sure)

It's really really in the background! Very weird.
With me, it applied when I went home after playing for a few hours.

Here's a few links where they talk about it!

Thank you for the links, I will have to keep that in mind. I thought cause I couldn't see it as active it wasn't DLing but apparently it does so in some super secret ninja mode lol.

P.S. I got the update DLed and installed with no issues at all (thank God my Internet didn't cut out for the full hour it took to DL). I just didn't do it in the background cause I guess I didn't know how lol.
