The only reasons I can think of are either the XML files, or the metadata of the .mkv file. I can't check this right now because I lost a lot of my media-related files when my laptop HDD died.

The metadata is stored as XML files inside the mkv, you should be able to use MVKToolnix, use mmg.exe, and under the File tab, select Header Editor. In the window that pops up, open the .mkv with it and you should get a small list of expandable lists that you can edit, don't know if this will solve the issue though since I have nothing to test it on at the moment.

I will have to try that out and see if it solves the issue. Also. note to anyone reading this guide, I have updated it with images to hopefully make it a bit easier to understand.

Edit: Looks like my MKVtoolnix decided to delete itself somehow, I'll have to reinstall it.

Edit 2: After having tried that I'm still stumped, it didn't fix the issue. I have located and edited the correct XML's related to the episode but that didn't help either. It looks like the only way to make Plex properly show that one episode's info is to change the name. Below is an image to show just what I'm talking about. As you can see the one on the left shows the name well the one on the right shows it's name AND episode number. I really wish I could figure out why the hell Plex will only see it if I name it differently when it doesn't care how the other episode is named.

Huh, that is really weird. Think maybe a bulk-rename tool would make it easier to deal with ? I doubt it would be in the correct order though, unless they already are in order.

Nah, I'll probably just have to live with it. I would've thought editing the xml's would've solved it but for some reason renaming the file itself seems to be the only way.

If I spelled something wrong, I'll just blame it on auto-correct

I wouldn't mind writing a small tool that did that, can't do it now though since I lost all my C++ stuff thanks to the death of my laptop HDD.

Something like that for music would be useful to me but my TV shows are already obsessively named by episode number and title (01 - Enter Naruto Uzumaki!.mkv). No sense changing that now, I'll just rename the ones that have broken metadata.

One other issue I have is that some of my videos freeze the system unless I set them to play as 480p or less. I don't understand why. I tried tweaking all the settings...faster encode, slower encode, make my CPU hurt, changed the preferred quality settings to each different choice...all nothing. Unless I choose 480p, before playing these certain videos, Plex on Wii U won't play them. They will play perfect streaming to my iPhone though, so I'm going to assume it's some sort of limitation with the Wii U Web Browser.

That's really weird considering that others will play in 720p for you just fine, it isn't a fully fledged web browser though, can't expect everything to work 100% of the time.
So lazy though, I still haven't gotten around to setting this up. One day I will have my MASH streamed so I don't have to hook up the DVD player anymore !

Lol, yeah. It's either a limitation of the web browser of the way the particular files are encoded. I might try re-ripping and re-encoding them.

I'm using a free tool called "Bulk Rename Utility" to clean up the names of my tv-series/anime and it's working great. Found it a while ago and it's made my life a whole lot easier, just search for the name and choose the co.uk homepage. There are no limitations on the number of files to change at the time from what I've noticed (tried with Bleach/Naruto which were 220+ episodes)
And it's not that hard to learn, it just looks hard because of all the settings available:
