Which also isn't externally powered, since it's a THUMB DRIVE!

WARNING: While every possible precaution is taken in giving the following instructions, there is inherently a small chance (as there is with software modification of any console, phone, etc.) that you could brick. Accept this fact or stop now. You have been warned.
    - The following instructions are for modifying the Wii Mode on the Wii U console in order to play backup Wii games from SD card, USB stick, or an external HDD. This guide IS NOT compatible with the regular Wii. If you are looking to modify your regular Wii, look HERE.
    - The HDD used to hold your game backups MUST BE EXTERNALLY POWERED. (Meaning it has its own power supply that plugs into an outlet) The Wii U does not supply enough power to completely run an external HDD.
    - After this mod, if you leave your HDD plugged into the Wii U console, it will prompt you to format the drive every time you power on your Wii U. ALWAYS select Cancel, otherwise you will delete all of your backed up Wii games!

Buddy, I would like to tell you, thanks so much, I got resolve my problem, thanks !

I have used a harddrive that was not externally powered. I just bought a plug that had two usb connections worked like a charm. Thanks for the guide. I did mine back in January by just searching ...alot.

Nor is it officially supported by Nintendo, and I've heard others say it didn't work for them.

So if Nintendo doesn't support it, why should we?

Ign has also stated that though it does work it isn't nearly as reliable as using a external power drive.

The Y cable did not work for me - WD My Passport 320. I got creative and plugged the other usb end into a 1A usb cell phone charger. Worked great then. So basically, if you try it and it works good for you! But we arent going to recommend it if it isnt reliable.

    pls try to help!!!!!!

Hi guys, before i saw this thread, i was trying to hack my vwii using the wii softmods. They didn't work. I found this thread and softmodded my vwii using the tutorial, and everything worked fine. However, when i tried to start up usbloader gx, it would just go back to the vwii menu. So, and i have no idea why, i just tried to install priiloader, and it said that it was installed. However, i quit the priiloader installer, and tried to go back to the vwii menu, and it just gave me a blank screen. So i turned off my WiiU, and it worked fine. So i tried going into the vwii mode, but all i get is a blank screen after the WiiU restarts to enter vWii mode. Can anyone pls help me??? I feel so stupid for doing this, but i guess failure is a vital part of learning. Thanks in advance for any help that you may (or may not) provide.
