The Wii U Launch Titles easily beat the PS3 and 360s Launch Titles

The Wii U Launch titles easily beat The PS3 and 360′s Launch Titles

The Wii U launch titles has been under fire from a lot of gamers online lately. We continually hear the Wii U launch titles are not that good and many have voiced their concern with the amount of ports that have been announced for the system. While we always want to see original games on any system the quality of the ports and the general misunderstanding of a new console into the industry has us defending the Wii U launch line up here at playeressence.com.

Here are the PS3 launch titles:
Resistance: Fall of Man – Sony –
    NBA 07 – Sony –
Genji: Days of the Blade – Sony –
Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII – Ubisoft –
    Call of Duty 3 – Activision –
EA Sports Fight Night Round 3 – Electronic Arts –
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion – Bethesda Softworks –
    F.E.A.R. – Vivendi Universal Games –
    Full Auto 2: Battlelines – Sega –
    Madden NFL 07 – Electronic Arts –
MARVEL: ULTIMATE ALLIANCE – Activision –
Mobile Suit Gundam: CROSSFIRE – NAMCO BANDAI Games –
    NBA 2K7 – 2K Sports –
Need For Speed Carbon – Electronic Arts –
    NHL 2K7 – 2K Sports –
RIDGE RACER 7 – NAMCO BANDAI Games –
Sonic the Hedgehog – Sega –
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 – Electronic Arts –
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas – Ubisoft –
    Tony Hawk’s Project 8 – Activision –
Untold Legends Dark Kingdom – Sony

A lot of ports on that list.

Now, let’s take a look at the 360′s launch titles:

    Amped 3 (2K Sports)
    Call of Duty 2 (Activision)
    Condemned: Criminal Origins (SEGA)
FIFA Soccer 06 Road to 2006 FIFA World Cup (Electronic Arts)
    GUN (Activision)
    Kameo: Elements of Power (Microsoft)
    Madden NFL 06 (Electronic Arts)
    NBA 2K6 (2K Sports)
    NBA LIVE 06 (Electronic Arts)
Need for Speed Most Wanted (Electronic Arts)
    NHL 2K6 (2K Sports)
    Perfect Dark Zero (Microsoft)
Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie (Ubisoft)
    Project Gotham Racing 3 (Microsoft)
Quake 4 (id Software and Activision)
    Ridge Racer 6 (Namco)
Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 06 (Electronic Arts)
    Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland (Activision)

    Another long lists of ports.

Now, the Wii U launch titles so far:
    Assassin’s Creed III
    Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition
    Ben 10: Omniverse
    Darksiders II
Family Party: 30 Great Games (working title)
    Jett Tailfin
    Just Dance 4
    Lego City: Undercover
    Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth
    Mass Effect 3
    NBA 2K13
    New Super Marion Bros. U
    Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge
    Nintendo Land
    Pikmin 3
    Project P-100 (working title)
    Rabbids Land
    Rayman Legends
Rise of the Guardians: The Video Game
    Scribblenauts Unlimited
    SING (working title)
    Sports Connection
    TANK! TANK! TANK!
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (working title)
    Wii Fit U
Wii U Panorama View (working title)
    Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2013
    ZombiU

Looking at these three lists it’s clear the Wii U wins in quality and variety. Project P-100, Pikmin 3, ZombiU, New Super Mario Bros U, Rayman Legends, Scribblenauts Unlimited, and Lego City Undercover are all original and look fantastic. Assassin’s Creed 3, Batman Arkham City, Mass Effect 3, Darksiders 2, and Ninja Gaiden 3 are all ports but have added features that enhance gameplay. In Ninja Gaiden’s case Team Ninja has worked closely with Nintendo to refine the game and add some elements that greatly enhance gameplay that were not in the PS3 & 360 versions of the game. We have heard a lot of “why should I buy a game I already played on PS3 or 360″ and its actually quite simple, you don’t. These AAA ports are for the people who have not played them. Not everybody has played Mass Effect 3, Batman, and Ninja Gaiden. Some gamers will like the added touch screen hotkeys for Mass Effect 3. And a lot of people would like to have a version they can play laying down in bed. The Wii U Gamepad has remote play on the controller so we can definitely see people taking advantage of that. The quality of the ports also beat the PS3 and 360′s launch ports. It’s not even close. Madden 06 was literally missing 70-80% of the features in the PS2 and Xbox versions. Also, if you share a TV, being able to play your favorite game while somebody else watches TV or plays a different game on a different console is a huge plus. I know my wife will appreciate me getting off the big LED so she can watch a movie or TV.

Some gamers are saying the Wii U doesn’t have a “killer app” or something that gets them really excited. But I beg to differ. ZombiU by far looks better than Sony’s killer app Resistance Fall Of Man. ZombiU is unique and innovates through its gameplay mechanics. Plus, it’s a whole new take on the Zombie game genre. Resistance is hardly anything we hadn’t seen before even back in 2007. The Xbox 360 didn’t get a killer app till Oblivion came out in 2006. New Super Mario Bros U looks to be the true successor to Super Mario World. The more I see of that game the more excited I get. It’s not a rehash of the DS and Wii games some gamers claim it is. The game’s level design, structure, and even gameplay modes are new and look stunning in High Definition. Lego City Undercover may not be everybody’s cup of tea but the game in very ambitious and has a layer of polish for a open world game we don’t see in launch titles. Rayman Legends is a exclusive that picks up right where Rayman Origins left off. Rayman Legends showed a music level that integrated the touch screen perfectly. One could argue that Rayman Origins not Legends is better than Resistance Fall of Man 3, so Rayman Legends as an exclusive sequel ranks high on our list. Pikmin 3 and Project P-100 are both similar but yet uniquely different titles. These two games are great and add a layer of depth the PS3 and 360 just didn’t have in their launch lineups. The Wii U also has a slew of downloadable games that will be available at launch like Trine 2 and Cloudberry Kingdom.

While we agree the Wii U launch titles could always be better it’s hard for me to find another system that had a better launch lineup and has the amount of depth/quality the Wii U launch titles have. I’ve heard some people say the Nintendo 64 had a better launch lineup because of Mario 64, but as great as that game is, it’s only one game. Launch lineups should have depth and variety for people who don’t like certain genre’s and the 64′s launch lineup had two whole games. The Wii U has an original open world game, two AAA platformers, a innovative unique zombie game, fantastic AAA ports, unique strategy games, sports, and action. Anybody claiming the Wii U launch titles are weak needs to look back at previous consoles before they make that statement.
What do you guys think of the Wii U launch titles?

I agree the titles seem really cool. I am looking forward to some of the sequel games for sure. Nintendo sure delivers on uniqueness and quality.

The Wii tends to get a bad name because of some of the childish titles they have. Hardcore gamers often shy away from the Wii because of this. Once you get past those titles and see what it really has to offer, that's when the fun begins. I remember going to a game shop and having the clerk say that Wii games are Wii-retarded. When he said that I felt out of place among the slew of PS3 and Xbox titles.

I am really looking forward to the launch and also the downloadable games.

I really agree with you about your wife wanting the LED for a movie or something. Same deal at my house, it would be nice to game while she is in the room... or maybe not.
