How would you check what IOS you have in your system?
How would you provide this information to someone on the forum if asked?

The easiest way to check what IOS we have is to run SignCheck with Homebrew Channel.It can also show that IOS is fakesigning,boot2 ios tree and nand accessible and if trucha bug can be used.
I would tell him this:Just run the SignCheck from Homebrew Channel.(link of it would go here)It will save a signCheck.csv file with signcheck on the root of an SD card.

"SignCheck is a homebrew application which does several checks on your Wii's IOS. It can check if fakesigning (aka trucha bug) can be used, if nand, usb 2 ios tree or boot2 ios tree is accessible by each ios. At the end of the test it will output a .csv log named signCheck.csv to your sd card root."

I would suggest either the user google signcheck wii or link to the download here and also refer the user to the general wiibrew page on it here. I'd tell the user to extract the files and install on their SD card within the /apps directory in a folder named "signcheck." I'd then tell'em to launch it via HBC and generate a report of installed IOS via CSV (comma separated values) file and to copy'n'paste the results to a reply post (not as an attachment). I'd also remind'em they got to push the "reset" button for each and every IOS to get a full report. That's a quick'n'dirty, not as eloquent as Baboo77 from last week's Question of the Week answer.

How would you check what IOS you have in your system?

If starting with a successfully softmodded console from the 3.1-4.1 or either 4.2 guide (messie's 4.2, SS2's 4.2), I personally would:

• Download DOP-Mii v12 (unless I used SS2's 4.2 guide, in which case I would already have it) and install the included files to my SD card's \apps\ and \config\ folders
• Load HBC with the SD card inserted, run DOP-Mii
• Press down twice on the d-pad to highlight "Scan the Wii's internals (SysCheck)"
• Press A, then once more to start the process
• Press A when prompted to finish scanning beyond the first page of IOS files
• When the scan completes, press + to save the report to my SD card
• Exit the app and shut down the console
• Load the SD card into my laptop, backup the csv report to my folder with the corresponding NAND backup I set aside earlier, and examine the file using either Microsoft Word/Excel or Textedit, dpending on whether I'm using my PC or Mac

Generally my first reaction is to recommend signCheck before DOP-Mii. I still feel DOP-Mii is too powerful an app to recommend to newer modders, simple as the process requested here may be. But if I were asked about a comprehensive method, and assuming the user has a successfully softmodded console using one of the tutorials on Wiihacks, here's what I would say:

DOP-Mii
Use this app with extreme care. Even though warnings are present, you can do serious harm to your Wii console through misuse of this application!

• Download DOP-Mii v12
• Extract the file, inside of the DOP-Mii folder are two enclosed folders, "apps" and "config" - Place these in the root of your SD card or FAT-partitioned USB HDD
• File structure - SD/USB:\apps\DOP-Mii\boot.dol -and- SD/USB\config\DOP-Mii.cfg
• Plug the device back into your Wii console
• Load HBC, run DOP-Mii v12
• Press down twice on the d-pad to highlight "Scan the Wii's internals (SysCheck)"
• Press A, then once more to start the process
• Press A when prompted to finish scanning beyond the first page of IOS files
• When the scan completes press plus (+) to save the report to your SD card, minus (-) to save to your USB device (You can also press B to not save the report at all)
• Exit the app and shut down the console
• Load the SD card back into your PC and examine the CSV report it created with Microsoft Word, Excel, Wordpad, Notepad, etc.
• You can back up this file as needed

I would do what Ithian just said, but I wouldn't type all of it out. Run DOP-Mii v12, select Scan the Wii's Internals, once done save it to SD card, take the SD to computer, open it up in excel and copy and paste the cells for everybody to ooooh ahhhhh about.

ithian WINS lol i wouldnt use signcheck because it does not detect all ios(ios9,ios12,ios21) just use Dop-Mii or syscheck 1.6

There are several different homebrew applications that will check your system IOS's but sysCheck is by far the easiest to use and it gives an accurate and detailed report. Here is how you would go about creating a system IOS report and posting it in the forum.

Creating a system IOS report

A1. Download sysCheck 1.6.1 here.

A2. Extract the files and copy them to the sysCheck161 folder in the apps directory of your SD card. It should look like this SD:/Apps/sysCheck161/all the files

A3. Put your SD card in your Wii, enter the Homebrew Channel, and load sysCheck.

A4. The application is fully automated. It will scan every IOS on your system and it will exit back to the Homebrew Channel when it is done. In that process sysCheck will create a report in the root directory of your SD card. SD:/sysCheck.csv

Viewing the information and posting it in the forum

B1. Put the SD card into your computer. You can view csv file by opening with Microsoft Excel or the text editer of your choice (Microsoft Word, Wordpad, Notepad etc). If your are going to post your results in the forum I recommend opening it with Excel, Word, or Notepad++ because it lays out the information better and makes it easier to read.

B2. Just cut and paste the information into your post so that whoever is helping you can see it.

B3. You may backup or delete the sysCheck.csv file or leave it on your SD card if you wish. It will get overwritten next time you use sysCheck.

How do I check my IOS's if my Wii if HBC is corrupt

C1. Backup the contents of your SD card to your computer. Erase it's content and format it to FAT32 if it is not already.

C2. Download CB2_BB_SysCheck_1.6.1.zip and extract all the files and folders to the root of your SD card.

C3. Put the card in the wii and click on your SD card button. Load boot.elf.

or

D1. Copy the sysCheck boot.dol to the root of your sd card. Put it in your wii and load up priiloader.

D2. Scroll down and select "Load/Install File". Highlight Boot.dol and "press 1" on your wiimote.

How would you check what IOS you have in your system?

1. get sysCheck to create a list of IOS's installed on your Wii. Look here - sysCHECK v1.6.1
2. copy and paste the sysCHECK folder to the apps folder of your Wii SD card.
3. run sysCHECK from homebrew channel, a .csv file will be created on the root of your Wii SD card.
4. Take the Wii SD card back to your computer, copy the .csv file to your computer, open the .csv file with notepad, now you have a list of IOs's installed on your wii.


How would you provide this information to someone on the forum if asked?

1. Use notepad to open the .csv file that was created by sysCHECK.
2. Highlight the IOS list, right click and select copy.
3. Paste the IOS list to a reply post of who requested the IOS list.

I agree with Ithian. Syscheck is much more thorough, an as far as " typing it all out", that is so that a newer member who isn't familiar with the program can understand what they are doing and exactly how to use it/copy the results here. Of course you stole my answer LOL:D
