Nintendo sells 1.7 million Wii's in 1 week.

For the week ending ending December 20th, 2008, Nintendo has sold 1,695,940 Wii consoles. 1,000,930 were sold in the US, 695,010 and were sold in other regions of the world (Japan excluded). These numbers are staggering considering the next nearest competitor is the Xbox 360 at 918,919 units for the same sales period. The PS3 pulled dead last at 485,937.

This is nearly a 2:1 ratio against Microsoft and over a 3:1 against Sony.

Also marching along is the Nintendo DS, which missed the 2 million mark in 1 week by under 100,000 units. 1,929,713 new consoles hit the streets, stomping Sony's PSP with a 4:1 ratio.

Nintendo's holiday dominance streak is now at 3 years and counting.

my mom *stole* brought in my wii to her office for a pre Christmas party 2 weeks ago, since their laying off people and they wanted to give a goodbye, blah blah blah thing, and they played Wii sports, and Guitar hero III, and today i was talking to her, and 49 people in her office *theres 159 people =P* bought their kids a wii =o

price + games + the family factor = sales, simple as that

In a garbage economy, people are still able to buy nice things with Nintendo's low pricing strategy. They've done an excellent job with forecasting trends and demand. They're extremely successful due to so many factors.

look at the number of parents here in the past month... its like this

wii 200 usd investment
modchip 100 usd tops
in all and all their done
some blank dvd's

and BAM christmas, birthday, etc, all that done, no more asking, no more begging, etc, they got all the games they could want, and in the long run it saves loads
