Even with this I don't believe you'll be able to play GC games. Reason being is that even though it's reading from the DVD, the DVD Drive itself is still USB based....as such, when you go to play a GC game the Wii essentially turns into a GC and no longer will see the USB ports thus not allowing you to play the game.

All in all, even though it's reading from a disc, it's still "loading through USB" if you will.

Yeah I thought as much since posting as no one else shares the same excitement I may have shown too early. There seems to be arguments as the people telling others it works haven't even tried it lol even on gba temps. If someone could just give a confirmed Yes it works or No it doesn't answer it would be great.

Preferably before I spend money on giving this a try, would I be able to use this external dvd drive to play dvd films on the wii through mplayer ce ? As my current d3-2 won't even let me do that.

This external DVD is recognised only in uLoader ? I tried WiiMc and MPlayer and they both crash when the DVD is inserted in USB ...
Need i install some other Cios besides the ones done in the softmodding process?

Why? I'll tell you why. As a foreigner living here in the Philippines you gotta love the corrupt culture here.

#1 - when I purchased my new, black Wii at a MAJOR department store for Christmas, it came already patched and softmodded and included uLoader version 5.1. No extra charge, they didnt even tell me it had this.

#2 - They also sell (for reasons I now understand), an apparently Chinese USB DVD drive for about $20 US which they tried to tell me I needed. I will go back and buy this tomorrow

#3 - The fastest internet connection available in my area is about 800kbs which means about 2 days to do a 4gig download (good thing I have original disks to copy )

#4 - Every market stall and commercial area (including some 7-Eleven stores) sells 'Backup copies' of movies and Wii games costing about $.75 US

#5 - On the flip side, computer parts are extremely expensive here due to corruption in the importing process. So a name brand 1TB USB disk drive will cost well over $500 US.

So from my standpoint, a no brainer.

Great work and many thanks for all the efforts!

Wowza this is an old thread. Even the thread this links to is old and outdated. To the depths!
