I think I've got a D2C3 drive, though it could be a D2C2.
Bought my Wii on 04 June 2008, it was delivered to the GameStop on that day. I was there when the guy was delivering them. My Wasabi modchip arrived a couple of days before.
Serial number on the Wii starts with LU574. I tried doing a search for this, but no one's posted anything about the LU574's yet.
Took the console and the Wasabi chip to a guy I know, he's a pro with this stuff. He told me to get the Wasabi chip because he no longer buys his own chips for mods, he makes his customers. This is what happened:
First, as is normally done, he put in the chip and soldered everything. The Wii turned on, but the light on the Wasabi was red and the drive wouldn't spin up. He then replaced the ground wire, but the same thing happened. He then threw in a 47uF capacitor, at which point the disc started spinning up at boot, but the Wasabi light was flickering a bit and alternating between red and green. He then switched one of the wires, the really long one, and put it under the board so as to not interfere with any circuitry. That made the light stop flickering and behave, but the Wii would neither recognise backups nor originals. He then removed the chip and all the wires and re-did the job. Everything seemed perfect, but the system still wouldn't recognise backups or originals. He tinkering a bit more with it, did some things that I either didn't see or couldn't really describe, but still nothing. All in all, I was waiting four hours at his shop Sunday morning with a hangover and he had to give up. He said that he thought the chip was either bad, or that I have an ultra new Wii that's "unmoddable" of yet.
I'm waiting for the place I got the chip from to get back to me, but I'm thinking that I just got unlucky and got one of the first D2C3's because no one has even mentioned my serial number yet. Suggestions/comments/opinions?

That's good news, I didn't want to buy a new drive just to mod it. I was actually considering buying the D2Pro9 instead of the Wasabi, but this guy told me Wasabi was where it's at. I think I'll trade the Wasabi in and take my business to someone else.
