Wii Firmware Update Out - Could brick wii.
Engadget is reporting of the possibility of having your Wii bricked after doing a firmware update. It was reported that before doing an update on a modded Wii, they would receive a message stating "If your Wii console has an unauthorized technical modification, this upgrade could cause interoperability of your console."
Nintendo as well as Microsoft recently cracked down modders.
Some new updates that Engadget mentioned included:
"A new digital clock on the main menu, a few "aesthetic changes to the Wii Shop," an updated Forecast Channel window, a "Today's Accomplishments" note on the message board, and a made over Wii Shop that "changes the way Virtual Console games are ordered"

it's done!
it doesn't do much, all it does is put a clock in the blank space, and put a picture of the weather on "forecast channel" icon, put news headlines in 'news channel' icon, change your message board a bit, and has a newly designed Wiishop channel.
i'd say its worth the time it takes to load.

No problems on my Modded wii. Backup play great and i'm not bricked. I don't think there is a way to detect the chip because of the chips location.
I do like however the envelopes are now white if you get a system msg. Also the way you add friend codes is a little different, and you can move people around now.
It told me something about parental controls when the update went in place but no biggie to me on that.

my modded wii is also fine after the update.
the update took a long time though.  my screen went blank when the update was done but it returned saying the update was done. |
