The issue used to come up mainly when connect24 was left on. Now with the latest firmware if it is on then the fan will go on once in a while to cool things down. I recommend keeping it off though.

Is the purpose of Connect24 to continuously stay connected to the internet?

if it's still under warranty...send it back...this is an inherit design flaw of the wii.....

the video processor degrades rather quickly with the constant heat produced by the wii when in "standby mode"

the color specked you see is a tell tale sign that the end is near.....

the next stage is no video..meaning black screen......

I have seen quite a few of these..... and even if it's out of warranty and you bitch long and hard enough to the right people...they will still replace it for you

Good Luck

Hi was just searching on google when came across this thread and was wandering if any of you had the answer.
It appears my wii may have overheated. My friend was an idiot and left the wii on constantly during the night to charge his iphone through the usb slot... i know..
Basically when the wii is on, whether there is a game in or not, after about 10 minutes the video cuts out (green light is still on and disc appears to be still spinning if in play). So i turn off the wii and leave it unplugged for a few hours (if any sooner it turns on with a black screen (nothing appears)). After a few hours it'll be good for another 10 minutes.
My wii is modded, and it has been quoted as "unfixable" though hasn't been inspected.
Does this sound like a hardware issue which I could replace a few parts, i'm fairly competent at doing so :P

Ca

video processor is going....total black screen soon...sorry to say
...replace the video processor on the MOBO...meaning get a motherboard

I tell all my customers know that they should make sure the connect24 STANDYBY is always OFF.

now with the new wii FW... the fan turns itself on periodically to cool down the wii when on standby.....don't know how effective it is though......mine stays off
