sourceEurogamer is reporting that there are not one but four new Need for Speed titles under development by Slightly Mad Studios, EA Montreal and Black Box respectively. Need for Speed: Shift will be coming to PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and PSP, while Need for Speed: Nitro will be on Wii and DS. Both will be arriving this fall. Finally, there's Need for Speed: World Online, which is coming to the Asian online PC market this summer before hitting the west at a later date. The last will also be handled by EA's online studio in Singapore, and looks to be in line with the free-to-play games that are popular with Asian PC gamers.
Seems like EA has completely given up on porting PC, PS3, and 360 titles to the Wii. I'm sure it's a combination of play control enhancements and hardware limitations.
