It's not a waste if that's how I convinced my wife to get one so I could hack it while she wasn't looking...
(Actually I didn't even have to convince, the bank account was fat and she had a spending compulsion and was like Wii Fit yay! and I was like Wii H@x yay!)
I remember reading a news article where a Wii was donated to a senior group building, and the senior citizens there spent all afternoon playing Wii Sports, and they were having a blast with it, especially Wii Bowling. I thought that was pretty cool. Unfortunately, I can't remember what the video was called, but I'll dig around YouTube for it. It's most likely there.
