Wii Friend Code: None Yet
Friend codes, thing of the past?

Quote:
A major third-party publisher will reportedly release an online Wii game in 2009 that is unrestricted by Friend Codes

According to IGN's latest Nintendo Voice Chat podcast, the developers of the title discovered that it was possible to access the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection without them, and built a custom engine that did so. The quote about this shows up about 49 minutes into the original podcast.

IGN's access to well-placed sources is unimpeachable, so there's no reason to seriously doubt this claim. Right now the game in question is unnamed and possibly unannounced -- Joystiq independently confirmed that it wasn't The Conduit. My money would be on it being an Electronic Arts title, since they've got a better track record for building their own online infrastructure for consoles than almost any other publisher right now. What's your guess?

Either way, this is news to be excited about. Assuming Nintendo doesn't stop the publication of the game or force in Friend Codes, one third-party publisher pulling off online multiplayer free of the Friend Code system means others are going to follow. It'll be a much-needed shot in the arm for the Wii's appeal to the hardcore crowd.

Wow. I'm not too sure if Nintendo will like this one, but the removal of game codes would be quite nice.

I think Nintendo needs to pony up, and just create a well fun online server. Hey since Microsoft stole the Miis', why can't Nintendo steal the basic idea of live. Your wiicode registers online, you make a name is logs in. You get on and can add people to a friend list. Bam, Nintendo Wifi is almost perfect....

this is simple

nintendo is CASUAL

a Casual player gets online when they can, they play for a bit and leave unlike XBL people whom play 10000's of hours

also play XBL

fighters are usually dead and if there is someone hes CHEAP AS HELL
puzzles are dead
3rd party shooters are semi active/dead
main stream shooter = BOOMING
etc

currently nintendo has a few games that are online but lets think about it...

COD5... isnt fun with the wii mote
james bond isnt fun with the wii mote
etc the wii mote limits the fun, if mad world was online we might be talking but its not... nintendo barly even have voice, its not gonna happen, and it probly never will

I gave up on online gaming. Pretty sure that if Mario Kart DS didn't ruin it, it was Guitar Hero 3. Most people who play games online are *ssholes who don't care about fun. They only care about winning.

I don't find it fun to play against somebody who has no life outside of the game they're beating you at.
When you actually start to win they disconnect and that's no fun either.

I figured out how to beat "snakers" in MK DS but they started to disconnect on the final lap. Bastards.

The reason GH3 ruined online play for me...
Every game I ever got connected to was battle mode (UGH!!). ALL of these f*ckers I played against would hold on to the battle powers until the the beginning of the "Sudden Death" round, where they released all three that they had causing a cheap, instant fail on my part.
