Hardware and software mods on same wii?

    Hi Guys,

I have been using a wii for years now. Back when I first got it, I got a company in Australia to install a hardware mod chip. I believe the model was a D2Pro 9 Wire. This had been working great but a few months ago i bought a copy of Super Mario Galaxy which upgraded the software on my wii. Since then i have not been able to play some of the backup disks i have.

This weekend I have been looking at how it is possible to actually put all ISO images on a hard drive and play them from that. The only problem is i have been having a lot of trouble getting it working. I have homebrew installed (after it got uninstalled after an update), but I can't seem to get BootMii to load, it basically just goes to a black screen and the dvd drive light starts flashing. But maybe i am getting too far a head of myself.....My question is, since i already have a hardware mod chip installed is it even possible to perform software mods?

Prehaps they conflict with each other!

    Any help is appreciated.

    Cheers

hard and softmods work great together. Follow the any wii guide in my signature step by step and you'll be good.

I see that this is your first post and you just signed up today, please make a post HERE and you will get a welcome message full of great info to help you in your wii modding.
The updated system menu killed your hardmods ability to play out of region games. Bootmii is failing to load because you don't have the bootmii files on your sd card. Regardless of how it is installed (ios or boot2) you still need the bootmii folder on the root of the card for it to launch.
Hardmods and softmods play fine together, however once you do the softmod and load your games onto the hdd you will find little to no need for the hardmod at that point. Getting up to changes game discs will be a thing of the past .
The softmod any wii guide linked in my signature is what you should follow to get properly softmodded. Follow it from start to finish, it will safely overwrite anything you have already done.

Wow thanks for the fast response! It has given me new confidence that it can be done!! As I was getting pretty frustrated today! It's quite late here in Aus so will tackle it tomorrow. Will let you know how it goes.

Ps, will probably just wipe everything and start from fresh

    Thanks guys

Well looks like the guide worked I followed it and anything went smoothly. Thanks for your help, much better than other guides i found online. The only probably i am now experiencing is that some of the backup games will not play on the wii.

So basically I have followed the guide http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...tml#post378729. I have installed the wii backup manager and formatted the drive as FAT32. I have transferred the game onto the hard drive, turned the wii on and launched the configurable USB loader. I select the game and all i get is a black screen.

In the Wii Backup manager it says the IOS version if the game is "IOS53" and the Region is Pal (which is the mod pack i put on the wii). What does the black screen generally indicate, and any ideas on how to fix it?

    Cheers

Are you still talking about Super Mario Galaxy? I am showing it loads with IOS 33. Regardless, loading with a cIOS of base 56 in CFG works fine on my end. You can always try adjusting the game settings in CFG to use a different cIOS.

    Hi cjizzle,

When you say adjusting the settings in CFG what do you mean. the way i am doing it is going into CFG > selecting the game > press 1 for config > then select the IOS. however when i scroll the different IOS versions i cant go down to 56 the lowest i can go down to is 245.....

Loaders do not use IOS. They use cIOS (in the 200-255 range). You said you "basically" followed the ANY wii guide..does that mean you followed it completely? If so, you can use 222,223,224,247,248,249 or 250 as your game loading cIOS.

Yes that is correct i can choose any of the 222 - 250 Range. I just tried ripping it again and it seemed to work this time. Thanks for your help
