I suggest you follow this guide. It is a bit long, but it covers just about every softmod possible. The brick protection is ridiculous. It will give you everything you need to follow my guide, as well as one for USB backups. Everything is set in a good order too.
Sorry to bump this old thread but I found this post as I was in the exact same situation as Ragweed last week, wanting to play Wii Party and afraid that the 4.3 update would brick my old dc2key Wii. So I followed that guide to the letter, everything installed perfectly with no errors I ended up with 4.1U IOS58 v24.31

However, now when I put in my backup discs for Wii Party and Tetris Party I see the game on the disc channel but get a black screen when trying to start them. Did I miss something? I'm guessing I'm missing an IOS or something? I don't have a HDD to use USB loading so would be good if I could get them working from the discs. I'm 99% sure the burns are good (WiiJunkies verified the title/region, used Verbatim DVD-R)

Any help much appreciated. Let me know if you need more info about my setup.

How long should it take to run, it's been stuck on "Testing IOS9 vulnerabilities" for about 5 mins...?

Then it is frozen, and you likely have a bad IOS (or IOS's) installed. Hold down POWER for 4 seconds to shut it down, then run sysCheck again, this time testing only IOS9. Tell me if it freezes.

Please scan IOS10 (if you have it) and IOS11

PS:Thanks for using spoilers. I get sick of people taking up an entire page because they are too lazy to click the spoiler button.

    IOS10 isn't an option... IOS11 report below.

    Spoiler

If it is a bad IOS, is there any danger in just running the same IOS Update wads again with MMM?

Well, I decided to give this a go anyway and it looks like it did the trick... must have been a bad IOS somewhere as both new games load from discs now Haven't tried the sysCheck again yet - might run it tomorrow to see if it gets through them all without crashing.

Many thanks for the fast response and the pointers - really appreciate what you're all doing here.

Sorry I didn't respond. I was about to, but I got distracted (which doesn't take much ). I got back from dinner, refreshed the page and noticed you had posted again.

I'm glad you got it working, but I don't get why it would. Only launch titles (Twilight Princess for example) use IOS9. Unless I am mistaken (which I never am ), Wii Party and Tetris Party didn't come out till long after that. I think, excuse me, I mean I know Wii Party is pretty recent too.

If the sysCheck fails again, post what IOS it fails on. If you have to reinstall a few IOS's, I doubt it will be more than a few. If for some reason it is more than that, you can reinstall all of them with the IOS guide in my sig. Hopefully that won't be necessary though.
