Question New WII, question about chipset

I have checked on wiihacks to find what chipset I have. I am interested to buy the D2Pro9 modchip but I do not want to buy it if it's not 100% sure it will be compatible with my console.

Here is my serial number : LU608036456

Do you think I should buy the screwdriver first and verify the chipset or should I order an other kind of modchip and the screwdriver in the same order ?

According to wiidrives.com you have the following

There is a 50% chance the chipset is GC2-D2E.
And there is also a 25% chance the chipset is GC2-D2C (v1).
Lastly, a 25% chance the chipset is GC2-D2B with cut pins.
So if its purchased recently its a D2E. Regardless, the following modchips will work on your wii

    D2Pro9v3, Wasabi3, D2Sun, WiiKey2 and Wiizard

Spend some time to read forum section for each of those.

Purchased 1 yesterday as well and found it to be a D2C.

jbloggs - Does anything else decide the version chip to use or what the chips support; such as the D1A chip right next to D2C? Based on what I read, only the the D2C labelled chip is the important factor (not taking things like cut pins into account).

If you purchased it yesterday then I'm surprised that its a D2C, would have4 expected it to be D2E for sure.

The Wii Drive types (D2A, DMS, D2B, D2C, D2C2 & D2E currently) are what matter at this time. They could change the chip coding in the future.

well its likely it is a 'd2c2' but the d2c2's are labelled as d2c so no real way to tell by just reading the chipset

The d2c2 is still fairly common in some parts here as well, its about 60/40 d2e:d2c2 here.

Although based on the serial # all of those ones have been d2e for us.

I just got my D2Pro9 and have intalled it (I have used the videos on Canadmods website). My chip is a d2e like you said.

Thank you for the help and thank you Canadamods, my game copies are working like a charm.
