Wii from China

I bought a Wii earlier this year in China. It is a Japanese version and has been doing well with downloaded games as well as the copies.

I received some games recently from China and a few of them gave me a Japanese message. I tried these games on a friend's wii which was purchased a few days ago in Hong Kong.

The message said that these new games needed an update.

As my wii is japanese, I have loads of problems going throught the update. Is there anyway that the update be done manually?

Is there any risks from the updates that my wii stops playing copies?

Games that require the update: Fifa 09, Wii Music Orchestra, Summer Sports and a few more.

Thanks for any advice.

So long as the updates Japanese, you won't have any issues with installing the updates from the disc. If you install updates from any other region, you can potientially brick your Wii.

What chip do you have in your Wii?

Thanks for the info.

But where do I get the updates. I have been reading that its on the discs. But the wii keeps blocking at a black screen with japanese writings. The translation being that an update is required.

I am not sure about the chip buy most probably it's a wiikey.

Thanks for getting back to me.

What firmware is on your WiiKey? Have you flashed to the latest 1.9s for your region?

I don't know japanese, but I'm curious to know if you're seeing any white writing on that black screen, indicating an 001 unauthorized device detected error.

Try updating to the latest firmware, and see if that fixes the problem of allowing your Wii to read the discs, so that you can do the update from the disc.

How do I check the firmware?

The info in Japanese and translated in English is as follows:

更新後は、異常な部分を含むセーブデータは自動的に除去される場合がありますのでご注意くださ い。

なお、正しく使用いただいている場合は、影響ありません。

また、今回の更新で似顔絵チャンネルの機能が拡張され、似顔絵広場から似顔絵パレードへMiiを移動させる ことができます。

Miiの移動方法

1. 似顔絵広場にいるMiiをつかんでください 2. 画面右上の似顔絵パレードのアイコンにMiiを重ねてはなします

※6月17日以降、すでに更新を行われている方は、改めて更新していただく必要はありません。
English Translation

You can update the Wii Menu! Please press the "Update" button in the bottom-right to update.

Important:

Abnormal save data created through methods outside of normal use (altered data, etc) may cause damage to your Wii system. Beginning with this update, measures are taken against this.

Caution: After updating, save data containing abnormal sections may be automatically erased.

If you have been using the Wii properly, you will not be affected.

With this update, the functionality of the Mii Channel has been expanded. You can move your Miis from the Mii Plaza to the Mii Parade.

How to move a Mii:

1. Pick up a Mii in the Mii Plaza 2. Drag the Mii to the Mii Parade icon in the top-right of the screen and release

How do I update manually?

Thanks

Just manually trying to do an update won't work quite well because who knows what IOS the game itself is attempting to update.

Are the games you got downloads or purchased silvers? Its possible that if its a purchased silver, the updates on the disc may have been removed?
