Just a quick reminder, you might want to open up the Wii just to confirm what you drive you have, save you headaches later. And yes, Spyman definitely seems active around here and is a trusted retailer.

good call. too bad i need the triwing screwdriver to open it up right? or can i use a regular screwdriver? havent checked yet. thanks again for all of the help

You do not have to open up the Wii to check the drive chip.
As you have said;That you have purchased the Wii in Aug. 08.
There for the D2pro9, D2sunV3, or Wiikey2 will work on any chip you have in there!!!

Yeah, come to think of it, the wiring is the same for D2C/D2C2/D2E if you order a clip. You will definitely see quite a few D2Sun vs. D2Pro9 vs. Wasabi threads, check out them out and form your own opinion.
