For solderless :

Wasabi V3

Pro's
- rock solid
- little or no bugs (however someone said it doesn't work on some wii's for an unexplainable reason?)
- "futureproof" with a bigger memory capacity
- DVD update possible

Con's
- no Jtag update possible (but how necessarily is this actually?)

That is correct, the wasabi is very solid and stable, its a great choice if you have a d2c or d2c2. For d2e there is a slight possiblity it won't work on some.

D2Pro9
Pro's
- very good support team, lots of updates, etc
- jtag & DVD upgradability
- much preferred by sellers

Con's
- it also requires lots of updates aka somehow less stable
- you need a seperate Jtag updater... Don't think I'll ever buy (or need?) this

The latest version of the d2pro9 (v3 with 2.3/1.6) if iinstalled correctly works very well, and is stable, so it shouldn't be an issue). The jtag updater can be looked at as a pro and con I guess. Pro its an additional way to program the chip, fully programmable, and con that it will cost extra for it, but its not needed right now.

D2sun
- no idea (USB-update possible if I'm not mistaken)

Depending on the version you get there are different pros/cons
1.31/1.5 are non updatable (or not stated), where 3.xxx is updatable vis usb using nero programmer (seperate purchase). Since it is new we don't know too much on how future support will be, but for now it works fine.

Argon
- no idea

If you don't mind updates that are stolen from other chips and 10 years later

PS: I have no problem with regular updates, I'm familiar with upgrading the f/w of my devices, but if it can be stable from the first second, why bother?

True, I think all chips right now if getting the latest version are fairly stable.

PS2: is this correct:

Obviously this will never be the case... in my situation for sure
However, if it's possible it will need an upgrade because game copy protections (from dl/ed games?), than I'll consider the D2pro9

Its a hard case to tell, I like the fact d2pro9 has the ability just in case. But I am sure wasabi will come up with a way if/when it comes to it.

PS3 : Any info which is the most compatible with DVD+R's ? (I have Sony DVD+R discs..)

The Verbatim dvd-r is probably one of the best choices, made in singapore/japan. I have heard some had success with Sony brand though, but how good they really are is questionable, as it depends what dye is used.

quick update, Wasabi released their update which addresses the fix for those that get any problems on d2e, so a major contender to consider
