D3-2 or newer, I'd say. Layout looks like my D3-2 board I grabbed to compare this against, except the very center of my board is "cut out" and yours has no "nole" in the middle. The chip layout is identical. I believe there's illustrations here that aid in specific identification.

Edit: I believe it's the "D4" shown at the bottom of the linked page...

WODE will work but only the ISO loading from HDD features will work as the ability to play DVD backups was nulled by the newer Wii drives.

well i got my wii soft modded now but it doesnt work very good with the ehd games freeze up and sometimes dont load at all
thats why i wanted to put a chip in it so it could load burned dvds
would replacing the drive board fix this or do i have to buy an entire dvd drive

switching the driveboards should work fine. But I would try to fix your softmod.I would run pimp my wii 1.40 and let it scan your system. Then leave all of it at default and fix.....worked so good for me.but then again i run all my games on hard drive

Pimp My Wii is how noobs brick their Wii, or so I've heard and as Itated the WODE is ideal in a situation like this since it loads the iso from a HDD just like a softmod but it dosn't require custom IOS and the use of Pimp My Wii which I highly advise against using.

That's the end users decision to make.
