ok....first welcome to wiihacks....now to answer your questions that I love to explain to everyone who is new to the modification field.
The modchip is an electronic device or semi-conductor that is programmed with certain codes or firmwares. It is installed onto certain vital parts of the system's motherboard or drive to make the system perform other kinds of functions that the system not intended to do or not designed to do (i.e play backups of video game discs) You can get it on the above banners on on top. And they will help you very efficiently.
There are many kinds of modchip available. The most popular ones that are discussed on this forum is the D2pro v2 or v3 (very buggy chip) wasabi (i'll highly recommend it to you) D2Sun (very reasonable and affordable chip) and many others.
