    Wii BET chip...??!

I've just bought a NTSC-J Wii which I thought probably had a wiikey chip. Quite a number of my backups weren't working, so I tried updating the chip to 1.9s, although I was given an error. So I thought perhaps it wasn't a wiikey and thought I'd have a look... I found a minute chip, a Wii BET chip. Umm, anyone know anything about it?

I think some games weren't working because my Wii isn't updated. Either that or the chip? Mario Kart wanted to update my Wii, although that would brick it (I think, they're both NTSC, although it's NTSC-U and my Wii is NTSC-J)...and I don't want to update it online because I don't want v3.3+ so that Wii Freeloader Jap will still work...what to do??!

To be more specific about a game not working- Every game loads in the wii menu, although when you click to enter the game the screen goes black and the remote switches off. Sometimes I'm given one of two error msgs. The thing which nerves me most is that Wario Ware gives a black screen. If Wario Ware does that then surely it cannot be that my Wii requires an update...and then the problem lies elsewhere...

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

yeah.. that's what they call a cheap chip that was made home
You wont be able to update that.. you would have to get a official WiiKey..
Honestly there is nothing you can do with that chip.. besides taking it off..
and installing one of the new ModChips out there.. or a official WiiKey so u would be
able to update the firmware to be able to play the new games out there
I have them available in case you were looking for one..

Looks like an OpenWii chip. Take a look at the following thread

actually that is not an open wii chip, that chip was developed by a very small group that used to work for the wiinja team (shhhh Don't tell anyone) they never had a team name after they left wiinja team but a very long time ago before wiinja came out with their chip, they were the first to mass produce these chips in their basements and bedrooms for the public, I tried one of their chips already, was quite impressed with the performance but the IC is waaaaay to big for the wii and it was rather frustrating to secure it to the wii drive. Until wiinja came out and their chip was very small and stable. (during that time) (they must have finally decided to give the chip a name)
Thanks everyone for the great support.

I've heard that the wiinja team will replace older chips for a newer counterpart for free!! Does anybody know how I could go about finding out if this applies here and how to replace it?

it will not make sense whatsoever, it's better you use a wiikey or a D2pro or a wasabi chip cause the newer games comes with some serious copy protection on them and wiinja can't handle those games, ask my buddy spiktsu or spyman for a recommended chip to purchase

You can go with an original wiikey and it would be the lowest cost for you to go that route. Otherwise the wiizard/d2pro9/wasabi2 are great solutions. there is also the d2sun. The wiibet probably uses similar points that the wiikey will need so perhaps it will be the easiest to switch to.
If youre local we can also install it for you.

Unfortunately I think I'm going to have to do the installation myself; I live in South Africa. Although I'm a bit anxious about over installing it. I've got a steady hand, although have never done anything like this before...is it easy to stuff up the installation and render my Wii and/or chip useless?

I'd image I would go for the wiikey because it's cheaper. Do any of the other chips have advantages which are worth the greater price?

What do you sell them at?

I acutally have an NTSC-U Wii. I bought the NTSC-J one so that I could play backups...I didn't think having a Japanese main menu would bother me, although... it does and some of my games are loading up in Jap!! So, I rate I'm going fix the NTSC-J Wii i.e. put in a proper chip (WiiKey) so I can sell it and then also install a chip in my NTSC-U Wii.

I typed in my NTSC-U Wii's serial into Wii Serial Tracker and it said "Your Drive Chip is most likely GC2-D2C. Your Drive Pins are most likely not cut." Which chip would you recommend for my NTSC-U Wii?

We actually use PAL systems here. Will the chip you recommend for my NTSC-U Wii allow original and backup PAL games to load, and for that matter would a WiiKey?

From what I can see from the pictures above... you do not have a D2C drive..
it's a D2B and legs are not cut.. if you have a D2C drive that chippy would not
be loading some of your backs ups.. so the WiiKey would be a good deal for you..
I would sell you one for $20. (Official Wiikey) so you can upgrade the firmware on
the chip and have no more issues I'd have int in a envelope and shipping a
letter to Africa wouldnt cost me as much.. so i would say $25. including shipping..
