    Wasabi v3 or D2Pro? solderless

Hey guys, im new to all this, as i just purchased my wii in uk a few days ago and i am looking to get a modchip. i have been doing some research, and i have been looking at the solderless d2pro until i came across the solderless wasabi v3.

im pretty sure i have a d2e my seriel number doesnt come up yet anywhere that i have searched LEH2103... i havent opened it up yet so apologies for not being specific enough.

i basically want a totaly solderless chip and they are both for around 50 wasabi being slightly more expensive, i dont know if that means it better.

i would like to know which you guys would recommend.

    1) i have already updated my wii when i first set it up so i am assuming its on the latest 3.3 firmware. i am aware some users were worried about this effecting their wii whereas most have stated it does not have any impact in the wii chips.

    2) which of the chips is better for future updates to firmware on wii console, or games or the chip it self. i have read about making iso's and removing the update folder on the games does that mean i can not install any updates on games that may come out? and what would be the process of updating the mod chips? via internet or do i have to get hold of a dvd?

    3) can i play online, use wii internet and 24 with the chip without the risk of any problems?

sorry if i have asked any blatantly stupid questions and any help would be appreciated.

    thanks

For D2E Wii you have quite few choice for modchips, D2pro9v3, Wasabi3, D2Sun, Wizard & D2E-A9, I believe all except the A9 can be solderless solution although the D2Pro9v3 and Wasabi3 "may" require a single solder point. Also I believe the D2Pro9 is the only one offering the option of programmable Actel h/w chip using JTag programmer D2Prog (sold separately) as well as SPI Flash update via DVD. All the others I think you can only update SPI flash via DVD, but I may be wrong on that.

    1) Yes its fine to update wii to the latest version 3.3. You can even still install Homebrew channel at 3.3.

    2) As I mentioned D2Pro9 has the optional JTag progammer for h/w update so I would consider that the most future proof, but saying that all the other chips are all working 100% and haven't had the need to update the h/w, but the D2Pro9 has needed to enable it to work with the different Wii Drive types. Hopefully SPI update via DVD would be the only thing required.

    3) Yes you can currently play online and be connected to interent without affect wii, but no one noes what Nintendo will do in the future.

thanks for your response, i have been doing some more reading on the chips, and i also called the supplier aswell. he recommended the d2pro over the wasabi,

im glad to hear that there shouldnt be any issues regarding being online and updating.

the guy also told me the chip would come ready tested with the latest firmware etc and if anything was to go wrong they would replace it.

with regards to the jtag programmer - sorry but what is that exactly? iv not come across it or what it is for.

if your supplier will flash the latest version of the actel chip with their jtag programmer on the d2pro then go for that, you shouldnt need to worry about it.

game fixes are updated over dvd update anyway which should be all you need to worry about (in the future that is, as there are no issues currently and i assume none expected in the near future)

I'd go with solderless wasabi. If you are on a budget, solderless d2sun.

Thanks alot guys, your points have been helpful.

the guy did also mention updates via dvd aswell.

    @n1tro

thanks for recommending the wasabi, is there any reason for that? do you have 1?
most people have gone for the d2pro from what i have seen.

another quick question regarding the actual backups. do you have to use brick blocker on all region games to remove the update or just for the regions that can not the same as your wii. i have a pal system and will only been looking for pal games, that have hopefully not already been converted. can i run game updates from a pal back up on my system?

    thanks again.

I recommend the wasabi v3 over the d2pro for 1 simple reason. The chip works rock solid from day one. For me as an installer and an official reseller, I just like sh|t to work and not have to hear complaints about eject or inching issues. To be fair, the latest D2Pro firmware has fixed these issues but I hate having to teach customers to reprogram their chips every other month.

I wouldnt use brick blocker because newer system updates may look at the game and check to see if it has been modified and not allow it to play ie. in the 3.3 system update and trucha signed games

either choice you cant go wrong, both are great products. I tend to lean d2pro9 because of the jtag feature, I really do like that feature, but the wasabi2 is pretty damn good as well as is often the solution for those that cant get the d2pro9 to work.

what software would you use then? or do you mean not use anything like that and just do not update from backup games? if that is the case, would that be for all region games or just the regions that are different from you console.

back to the point about the wasabi, i guess simplicity was the main factor i was looking at this chip myself.

just to update i got myself the d2pro based on what the guy at wii-chips.co.uk told me, and what people are saying about the d2prog etc.
installed it and had a bit of a heart attack when it started inching, as i wasnt expecting it on the d2e model. had a look around the net and nothing i could do, as i heard i should be updating firmware and utility on d2e console.

i took it off just to make sure i hadnt bricked the wii completely - and it was fine.

then i tried it again and it worked, i think i was a little too carefull last time.

original wii sports worked, then tried a backup and all good.

im really happy about this, it would have worked first time if i had just been more firm so thumbs up for the d2pro so far.

thanks for all your help and suggestions it is much appreciated.

Yep the problem is sometimes people dont put it on all the way and get the inching issue and go into panic mode

Anyways you can use a utility called WUM and replace the type of update files in it as well.
