modchipcentral - do not buy there

I would like to share with you this horrible experience I had with Canadian MOD website ModChipCentral ([Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register]).

I made the order for the modded DVD drive from ModChipCentral on June 8th, they quickly invoiced my account, thus the waiting for the package to ship began.
I received the package on the 23rd only to discover that delivery packaging was poor and one of the wires was disconnected (if you ask me this was due to bad welding, shaking the package normally does not cause welding points to break)
When they were told of this they advised me to take the DVD with the WASABI chip to a professional welding shop in Israel (where I live), I asked them about reimbursing me for this and they agreed.
As agreed the wire was welded into place, this still did not fix the issue, instead when inserting a disc (WII sports original or downloaded DVD) I now received "Unable to read the disk" error message.

ModChipCentral advised me to ship the unit back to Canada.

After inspection they told me that they connected the wrong bridge on the WASABI chip, which caused the WII to "be" in NTSC region instead of PAL (should this even matter now that this is a "hacked" drive???) and this is somehow my fault!! (!!!!!)

They shipped a new (or the same one I can not tell) unit, this time this unit works although I must say that I can notice longer loading time for WII sports.

ModChipCentral did not reimburse me for - shipping or for fixing the loose wire or for taxes I had to pay twice when receiving the unit!
Or in other words NO REIMBURSMENT EVEN THOUGH THEY PROMISED.

I was dealing with "Sylvester G" from ModChipCentral.

My order ID: #29655

My recommendation is to STAY AWAY LIKE FIRE!
I advise you to buy in a different store instead of getting RIPPED OFF by these unprofessional lying imbeciles.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Maybe some of us will think twice about buying from there now. :P

as a modchip installer I have orderd from mcc and have never had any issues..I also ship out items and can say we dont pay the customer if they have to pay for duty or taxes when receiving the item..this is a given.....you are lucky you even got a response back from him. other resellers dont even respond for weeks and will blame the customer for everything.

Gmodz thanks for your input, it would seem I will not be buying from you any time soon as well...

Please go ahead and post these "other reslellers" so I know not to buy from them.

Even though the modchip business is a bit "gray" I dont see a reason for resellers to behave like they own me...

Your post is just poor business ethics.

Did you tell them your console was PAL instead of NTSC? This is important for the chip to make your system region free, they're in canada so if you don't mention your system is PAL they'll just assume it's NTSC-U. Communication error, no one's fault.

That happens sometimes, if there is anything to blame, it's the chip, not the seller or installer.

I can't think of ANYONE that would pay for the taxes. I would only reimburse shipping if the error was 100% my fault, but like I said before it seems to be poor communication (to the seller) that is the problem.

I understand that you're not happy with what happened, but most of your somewhat legitimate complaints are part of shopping online and internationally.

If the shop is unprofessional enough to send the unit out as new twice, istead of marking the shippment as a replacement unit (this gives you tax discount).

Anyway these costs are due to them being unprofessional, likewise part of the product being NTSC / PAL and requires some thougt (Oo Oh - using the brain?? not in this store...)
As a result I need to pay for shippment twice and 17% times two from the unit cost for taxes.(!!)

This "online store" BS is irrelevant, their way of doing business cost me a lot of money.

romansky you can complain about paying for return shipping when its not your fault but to complain about taxes is wrong...I am sure you have ordered other items from other countries in the past and have had to pay for taxes. Do you get your money back for those taxes? You should be complaining to the customs who are charging you tax on an item that is already yours. If I have sent electronics for warranty repair and have been charged tax at the border but you can always claim that back by showing proof that the item was originally yours and you sent it in for RMA.

As for mcc paying you to fix the soldering. Did he say he would pay for the repair? Did you tell him how much the repair was going to cost before you went ahead and did it?

I find it interesting that romansky has only 4 posts, and all those posts are for criticizing modchipcentral. Also, there's no need to spam across multiple forums on this site.

They answered my presales question via email quicker than the other shops, they shipped next day, and i got their package 4 days later (and it had to go thru customs). So they did a great job on my order.

More customer feedback I read was at:

Actually most online retailer for anything WILL NOT pay your for shipping/taxes when you have to return it for w/e reason. Anyhow they should replace it for you if there are any problem at all on the merchandise at no extra cost but shipping/handling on your own. And I think MCC has been around for quite a long time. This might just be a mere coincedence of unfortunate event happened to your order. And you said they agreed to pay you to let ANOTHER person work on their merchandise? Do you have proof in email? I don't think any business would let you do that. That means void the warranty on the merchandise once it has been modifed by unauthorized personals. But yeah I don't get what you mean by paying taxes "twice" when they replaced your malfunction drive? They charged you just tax the second time? Or did you confused Shipping/Handling with tax?
