Modchip advice
Ok, guys I know I'm a little late on the scene, but my boy just got his Wii modded and I would like to join the club. I have a 1 generation Wii that I waited in line for on the original launch date and I'm trying to figure out which chip will work the best with my system and be the easiest to install. I really don't want to mess up my Wii, so it would be best if I didn't have to do any soldering. Thanks for your help.

You have the choice of the WiiKey, d2Pro9v2/v3 or Wasabi3, all of these can be bought presoldered to the Wii-Clip for a solderless solution. There are also other chips but these are the most popular.

Is there 1 that you guys would recommend over the others. I assume they all do the same thing right? Is there 1 that has less problems than the others or is cheaper??? Sorry, like I said I'm really new to this.

Ok, I was able to get this info off another website:
There is a 100% chance the chipset is GC2-D2B (no cut pins or missing pad).
So Now, I'm back to this question:

If price is an issue then WiiKey is the least in price, works with all current games and is DVD updateable.
Otherwise either the D2pro9v2/v3 Which has capability of SPI Flash updates via DVD and also Actel chip updates via JTag programmer (sold separately) OR you can go with the Wasabi3 which updateable via DVD only and does not have the Actel chip update option, but it has not needed it yet.
The final decision is yours to make. read the forums and look at the success and failures reported.

If you can spend a couple more $, grab a solderless wasabi 2 or d2pro9 and you are set and don't have to worry about updates in the future.

Well, from doing a little searching around it seems like the D2pro9v3 is the only chip from the list above that will directly boot up backups. Can someone verify this for me? It seems like this chip might be the way to go, for ease. (Considering my wife and boys like to play the wii too.)

All chips directly boots backups if that us what you are referring to. Wasabi 2 or d2pro9 will be good for you.

I'd go with the wiikey, as it's probably the best and cheapest for the D2B chipset.
