unfortunately I am the only one who has a modchip. (and the only one with a WII for that matter)
Were you thinking it may be the chip? Do the LED flashes sound like it's doing the right thing?

the chip sounds fine to me...if its not crashing on original games..do you have the 3.3 update? if thats the case then the game might give you that error message because its not a 1:1 copy of original

Yes actually... I think the firmware of the WII is 3.3U as it upgraded just before I installed the chip. Is this an issue and is there a way to downgrade?

im pretty sure then its ur backup as this is the error people get with the game is not 1:1. use the following
Use homebrew to load Gecko Region Free
Use Gecko Region Free to boot trucha signed disc.
it might just be easier to backup the game again

Yep, I'm going to try and play around with backups and writing the DVD in a different mode (not DAO) and see what happens this evening.
Thank you very much GMODS. I appreciate your help.

So I played around tonight, verbatim DVD+R works perfectly burned at 4x. The Maxcel DVD-R works if burned at 4x, but fails if burned at 2x. The WII has a harder time reading the Maxcell's.
So it looks like the chip works great. Thanks GMODS!
