    Ok to Softmod after Modchip?

Hi i'm new to the forum and the wii and just recently got my wii hardmodded with a chip. I'm not sure which chip it is but there are some games that i cannot play and i was wondering if it's ok to softmod the console as well in order to play the other games(like the ones that are less than 4.37gb) and maybe a recommendation on which softmod would be the most stable and play the most games. I looked through the forums but didn't find the info for hardmod plus softmod?
    Thanks for any replies.

A Wii can have both a chipmod and a softmod. It is not unusual for most chipmodded Wiis to have some degree of sofmodding. Follow the correct tutorial for your system menu version-there are guides for the 4.2 Wii and also one for any 3.1-4.1 Wii. I guess the search thread isn't working too well as I have answered that combination question in the 3.1-4.1 softmod tutorial thread just about every week. Good luck with your softmod.

Not sure to what you are referring when dealing with a game less that the DVD standard 3.47GB-the games have junk bits to get them to that size for DVD play. Installing on a HDD removes all the extraneous crap, but you are are using a chip to play from DVD always-are you seeing some ciso files, maybe? Or maybe just compressed ISOs.

thanks for the quick reply gen3sf. My console is a 4.0u firmware. As for the file dvd file size, i had the numbers mixed up. I tried some games less than the full disk size that is used with the wii size and they wouldn't work and just give me read errors, so i figured that the mod chip i had wouldn't read smaller file versions of the games. I will try your softmodding tutorial 3.1 - 4.1 and give it a shot. As for using a hdd, i would like to use the 1TB hdd that i use for my wdtv but i think i would have to transfer all the movie files to another hard drive in order to format it. Around 300gb. So maybe i'll just have to get another drive for the wii, because i hate having disc's around.
    Thanks again.

Of course, you can use another HDD devoted solely to Wii games, but I just want to make you aware that installing a game ISO to the WBFS-formatted HDD removes the extraneous crap-the zero bits that are used to create th standard 4.37GB ISO image. That means that the average Wii game is about 2GB. Examples for you: James Cameron's Avatar is 1.75GB, Valhalla Knights 1GB, NSMB 0.39GB, and NBA2K10 3.47GB.

So, if you don't have too many games, you might try a partition manager to resize that 1TB HDD (if it's compatible-is a Western Digital? if so-yes, it's compatible) while retaining your existing data. Just making sure you know you have some choices here besides spending more money on another HDD. In case money is tight for you; if not-go for it-good luck and have fun with your Wii.

    Question

Hi,sorry for jumping on your thread but my problem is that I softmodded a chipped wii,did not know what chip was in it but only played older copied games not newer,so softmodded and went from 3.1 to4.1 as per guide, still only plays the older games because when put newer game in it says 001 error unauthorised device detected, can this problem be overcome?

Well, it isn't good manners to hijack aanother member's thread so if you have more questions after this-create a thread of your own, OK?

I realize from your post that you don't know much abut that modchip-some modchips have settings that prevent updates from occurring. That might be one source of the problem. Another could be the cIOS or loader settings. The new cIOS38rev17installer has additional 001 error fixes-give it a try: cIOS38Rev17 Installer.rar. Also go through your loader settings and turn 002 fix to ON.
