Nothing New...really... maybe by the end of this week
??
D2PRO9 Rev 2.0 Video workng on d2c2 ??
not tooooo(29 'o') many wires...[/quote]
Nothing New...
It's been cracked for over a week. now...
just getting it to work properly is the problem....
Drive still locks up after 3-4 insert/ejects
bug is still been worked out
as far as I know, there's no way to tell from the outside, although there are some people here that will say that even opening it up wont tell you anything and you won't know if it can be modded unless you try to install a chip, which I disagree with, but I'm just a newb here, what do I know?

After the recent change to Nintendo Wii’s which made us unable to modify the new units, we are pleased to announce there is now an available mod!! The D2Cpro chip for D2Cv2 (D2C Version2) We have placed our 1st order today, which means that ALL Wii’s can be completed; both the pre-mod’s and ANY install service, no more checking serial numbers! (For the time being anyway) Any questions about this, please call our office, Mon-Fri 11am-7pm on 08700 424603, thanks, Ben GWD

After three fucking weeks got my premod from them today. Not opening up, so can't say for certain if it's the new drive or not.
If it helps, serial LEH172152XX and yes, backups do work.
Last time I checked, nothing on the offical D2C site to confirm..

Yes...as of June 3
as of June 3 ...most installers started to receive them
and Yes They work
some are reporting an issue with playing ssbb backup......no solid verification yet
*** Also the 2 lines or 1 line of writing on the chip along with the certain print on the pcb ti id the d2c2 chip.... at this point is not an absolute anymore ...or so it seems****
I bought three consoles in the Netherlands and they all have 2 lines on the chip, first line is GC2-D2C and second line is a number.
The other chip is labelled GC2-D1A and they don't have "APCB D3 94V-0" written on the PCB. So I thought I was lucky and had the "old" D2C drive.
When I proceeded to install a D2CKey (with Wii Clip, all connections verified by measuring through alternative solder points), it just wouldn't work. The console turns on and originals play fine. Blue light flashes when reading from disc, but the red light never turns on and backups don't work.
Installing an old version D2Pro with 15 wires gave almost the same behaviour as with the D2CKey. Installing it with 9 wires (so... not real time patching, but code injection) caused the drive's disc insertion motors to continuously start and stop with 2 second intervals.
A D2Pro9 v2 worked flawlessly! So it turned out to be a D2C2 drive!
The only difference I could notice between this drive and any of the "old" D2C drives was the metal clip on top of the drive, right above the plastic spindle, with the number "2" embossed in it.
So far all drives that had this clip (with or without the "2") have turned out to be D2C2 drives and in the beginning all these drives also had D2C chips with only one line.
Long story short:
If your D2C chip has two lines and the PCB does not have "APCB D3 94V-0" on it then it can still be a D2C2. Always look for the metal clip above the spindle on top of the drive. This metal clip has been a better indicator for me than than looking at the chip or PCB.

vanDrunen hit it the nail right on the head...
what he said is the latest way to id the d2c2 dvd drive chip
I have had a bunch with those markings and exactly the same outcome.....
You never know for sure when it's a D2C2, but D2C-"1" is easy to spot.
In general it's hard to spot a D2C2, but a lot easier to see if a drive has a D2C-"1" chipset.
IF your drive does NOT have the metal clip above the spindle, then the drive is for sure an old D2C.
Here's some "educated guessing" about what happened in the process:
Nintendo probably did some design changes in the DVD drive which took effect immediately at all the different locations in the manufacturing "chain", but took some more time to follow through the entire process and affect the end product.
The most important change is of course in the D2C chip itsself. But from IC manufacturer to pick-n-place machine that solders the PCB's takes some time, which explains why there are still "old" D2C chips in the drives that look like they're new.
Another change is in the PCB manufacturing, which is another layout and looks like it's from another machine/factory and might just be for an increase in production, nothing special.
The metal clip above the spindle was a change that got applied in the end of the manufacturing chain (the final assembly) and is the first change that you'll see. This explains why all D2C2 chips were in a drive that also had a metal clip, but not 100% the other way around.
The only thing that baffles me is the missing second line on the D2C chip. So far I've seen just as many old D2C chips without the second line as D2C2 chips WITH the second line. Usually there are some markings on the BOTTOM of the IC that tells something about the manufacturing date, plant, etc. whch could explain the difference. But I'm not going to solder off the whole chip just to take a look, because it's not important.
