D2Pro: Clip vs Solder?

I'm sorry if this is a newb question. Just got a new Wii, according to the database, I likely have a D2c.

After reading through the forum over the past couple days, I've decided on getting a D2Pro. I'm trying to figure which particular product to buy. From what I gather these are my options:

1. D2Pro9--solder myself (I've installed chips on previous systems, but don't feel like soldering 15-30 pts if I can avoid it, 9 pts sounds OK though)
2. D2Pro with clip (pre installed)
3. D2Pro with clip separate (solder onto clip myself)

Is there any advantage to the D2Pro9 over the clip versions? If I buy the clip separate from the chip, is there any advantage--they seem to cost about the same? Are they both upgradeable via DVD?

Again, sorry if these are dumb questions, I've tried the search function, but couldn't find the answers. Thanks!

Just so you're aware. The points to solder to around the chip are SUPER tiny. Not like doing the xbox (if you've done that). But as other people have said, if you're a good experienced solderer (is that a word?), you should be ok to go.

The solder connections will give you a better connection overall. Plus there has been issues with the clips. Really need to read directions and get it right the first time. Taking it on and off seems to weaken the grip the clip has and starts to fail. But do it right and you're gold.

Pre-soldered vs do it yourself clip....up to you if you want to save $2. Seems that most places don't have them pre-soldered so I'd just order separate since that's the easy soldering part.

You'll want the programmer unless you wait like a month to order. The DVD upgradeable version (D2Pro9 since D2pro is now discontinued) just came out yesterday so if you order today...you most likely aren't going to have the new firmware that allows DVD upgrades untill you use the programmer to get that firmware on the chip to enable it.

I ran into this when i ordered this weekend and ordered the programmer just so i can do one stupid update to give me DVD update ability. $25 down the drain really. But hey...think of what you gain from doing this

But yeah, I ordered the clip pre-soldered. Make sure to check reviews on stores because I kind of did but not good enough. I'm now worrying that I got scammed. Hopefully foundmy.com will pull through and I'll be a happy customers though.

you will be happy that you already have the programmer....

the dvd update...can only change certain parts......all major updates still has to use the programmer.
