I have modded Wii and i don't know which drive chip i have installed on my console (i bought pre-modded Wii)
How can i check this? Is it some soft that checks the drivechip or the only way is to open the console?
Thanks

2 options really:
open it up and look
download and burn every config disk for every chip, and try each one till you find the right one.

damn.
must try harder.
Wonder if some sort of software solution to this might be possible. Dont have much experiance of mod-chips, just wondering if the can be addressed in software and persuaded to identify theirselves. Would need better coding skills than mine tho!

Modchips must identify themselves somehow as they happily work when you insert their discs. I heard that a brand actually responds to a multiple reset press on start. Still, if I'd paid for a modchip to be fitted I'd have crtacked the case open by now to ensure they'd not ripped me off and installed cIOSCORP instead. It's not hard and videos are plentiful, the scredriver is cheap as chips too.

I'm sure that i don't have cIOSCORP installed on my Wii, cuz i bougth it i think in the early 2008, and the softmod option was not developed in that time, or maybe i'm wrong... i don't know.
When i decided to buy a Wii, i've searched all Wii Hacking related sites on the internet for softmod optinon and the only way to play backups in that time was only via modchip, correct me if i'm wrong.
BTW my serial number is LEH..... and on wiitracker says:
There is a 50% chance that your drive chip is a GC2-D2C
There is a 50% chance that the pins on your drive chip are not cut
I don't have any expirience with opening devices and i'm little maladroit
I'm on SM 4.0 and my modchip still works with almost all games i tried (PAL & NTSC), except for Manhunt2 & Secret Files Tunguska (used to work when i was on 3.2) now i launch this games via NeoRame BackupLauncher
Thx for the reply

I was concerned too when I first opened my Wii case.
Mine was way out of warranty when I did it so I wasn't careful about hose little white plastic sticky things. I took my time, laying all the tiny screws on a rough sketch of the Wii orthographic projections so I could make sure they went back correctly.
I made a bit of a mistake and actually unscrewed the drive cover but once I realised my mistake I screwed it back on without any problems.
I was installing a Wiikey2 already attached to a clip so fitment was very easy. I agonised a little over it being pushed down properly but there was no problem.
Putting it back together was actually very straight forward, all the screws went back in and I tested it with the front cover off.
I checked a Youtube video first but really it wasn't too important.
Superman is too busy with all the crime in Metropolis to worry about identifying Wii modchips I guess.
