why not install preloader?? does a similar thing to bootmii(similar not same)
I know many people by now are tired of hearing newb questions, So feel free to skip this thread if you wish.
I simply want to know if and how a modchip can save from a bricked state.
I currently have a softmodded wii and no truly decent way to restore from a bricked state. (By that I mean I can't use the Boot2 trick)
Anyways I was thinking that I would pickup a modchip if it can protect against bricking. From there I would decide if I wish to make my wii a vigrin again with no worries of bricking during the process.
I am currently interested in the WasabiDX or just plug and play modchips in general.

Yes preloader lets you load directly into HBC which in itself has no real brick protection, but given if you haven't bricked HBC, you can use Bootmii or another app to fix the problem.
I am just asking if Modchips can offer any other form of brick protection, possible better then the above mentioned, and if yes how.
Well i didn;t understand your point... but i ll let you know anyway:
Preloader can launch HBC in case of a brick. From there you can undo the action that you did previously and caused the brick. Chips on their own do not offer protection. In most cases, you can use preloader instead of the chip to undo a brick, so a chip is not necessary. A neither a chip nor preloader prevent you from bricking your wii. But, in case of a brick you can run preloader no problem (in most of the cases anyway). AS a last resort, a Chip MAY help unbrick in case preloader didn't. Nothing is absolute. My recommendation would be, install preloader, and in case of a brick if you can't unbrick through preloader (by the way, it is very difficult to brick if you know what you are doing or follow the exact guide as is, no improvising), just in that case try with a modchip
What I wish to simply know is if a mod chip can help recover from a bricked state, and how it would perform that task. (This is assuming you installed the modchip before it bricked.)
Maybe brick protection was a poor choice of words on my part.
WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is outright MALARKY.....Originally Posted by messie [Only Registered Members May View Links| Click here to register]
While I appreciate you posting, Could you perhaps elaborate on that? So they do offer a way to restore from a brick? And how would they do that?Originally Posted by tristan [Only Registered Members May View Links| Click here to register]
LOL man i said the do not prevent a brick, they can recover from a brick. Try to read its plain english
Snake, a modchip can help recover from a brick in SOME cases, either before or after you place the chip does not matter. It is not absolute. Why i am writing this down again i do not know. Anyway, most brick cases can be undone with preloader rather than modchip.
to tristan: There are some cases that cannot be recovered with a modchip or anything else known so far.
Most bannerbricks can be recovered using preloader or a modchip
The fact is neither of them can save you from a full brick (the only thing that can is bootmii as boot2)
In fact if you were to read this:

If you unexpectedly get bannerbricked, you can just boot into preloader and fix the problem where as with a modchip you would have to order one then install then hope it works unless you already had a modchip installed which would be just as easy to fix the bannerbrick if you have the Universal Unbrick Disc v2.
